Shovelhandle Reviewed by Shovelhandle on 02-06-2009. First Grow, Log one Hello everyone, I have a few questions... This plant is about 2-3 1/2 weaks old now. Should it be only this big? So far Im doing the light scheduals sort of random, Atleaste till I get a timer. But Im trying to keep it at 18/6. Though I sometimes am off give or take a couple hours. Theres a little yellowing on the bottom leaf you can see in the picture, Doesn't the bottom leafs turn yellow and fall off, Is this normal. I don't have much money for a ph testing kit and all the things. Rating: 5

Okay so I just added two more bulbs,
I have 4 - 23 watt soft white Cfls.
Will that do good?
All I could find was soft white cfls for the money I had on me.

I'm not sure how good shes doing.
I dont want to give up on the plant.
But it isnt growing any taller that Iv'e noticed,
Anyways, I do however see new growth of leafs sence Ive changed the bulbs.
Maybe she will grow taller idk?

Im going to have to go outside and dig up some new soil soon.
Iv'e noticed some yellowing on the leafs, That could possibly be inbalaced Ph levels idk.

The timer I got isnt working to well, Should invested more than 5 dollares in a timer, It isnt to precises.

Also I got another seedling started, But it doesnt seam to be getting any bigger.

How ofton should I be watering these babys?
Any tips and help would be super.

Well the only reason I ditched the Organic soil I was using.
Is because I noticed alott of brown mights.
So I just threw it all away.

I really hope my soil doesnt come back to haunt me over a bad choice.
As the ground is frozen rate now, Or else Id go dig some up.
If I do go pick up some soil, What exactly should I be looking for.
I hear peat moss or soemthing was good.
But I dont think homedepot sells it.
I did however take notes of... They have...

Vigoro® All Purpose Plant Fertilizer 13-13-13
Vigoro 3.5 Lb. Premium Bone Meal
Vigoro 2.5 Lb. Blood Meal
Miracle-Gro® 3 Lb. Organic Choice® Bone Meal

I might try to use some nutrients, When would be a good time to use them.

here is what someone else on another board is using:

The soil mix consist of 1 bag of mriacle grow organic + 1 bag of pro mix + 1 cup blood meal + 1 cup bone meal + 1/2 cup dolimite lime + 10-20% added chunky perlite

and only waters with tap water through out the entire grow. with SPECTACULAR results.

whats up shovel??? 5000 kelvin is the color of the light wjite to blue for veg more red for flower here is a link to some good bulbs 85W 120V Spiral Medium Base i have 3 of these for veg 5000 kelvin and i have 3 of the 2700 kelvin 42 watt for bloom box!but i keep getting all males because i have the worst luck darn it ill keep an eye on this one bro keep us updated :thumbsup:

Thanks for takeing the time to read this, Most people just look at this thread and say to them selfs, " Oh well thats his problem".

But I really apprecaite the imput.
I posted a couple pics above of my lights.
Are thoes good for vegg.

your going to want more bulbs as you plants as your plants get bigger, and i like daylight spectrum cfls. but what you have is a good start. as for soil i used miracle grow seedling starter formula for my grow, its ph balanced and contains no nutrients, that way i have total control of the nutrients the plants get. good luck with your grow, you might luck out like me and have a great first grow. heres a pic of me with my girls. read over this thread about lighting it should help you understand, it did for me
