Speaking and wanting to hold onto your native language is a problem for you
I live close to a Gaelteacht area, which basically means everyone speaks Irish. At home to their children, in their local shops and the children attend Irish schools. They sit the same exams as everyone else but they sit them 'as Gaelige' / in Irish. I have limited Irish language skills, but what little I have I'd like to keep and I love that my children still learn it in school.

I can't see why that would pose any problems for anyone else - are you just pissed off coz you dunno what they're saying?
No, it's the fact that there is no need for it. I am generally a logical person, I see little point in Irish people speaking Irish (or Welsh people speaking Welsh, Scottish people speaking Gaelic.) Everyone in Ireland speaks English, not everyone in Ireland speaks Irish. English is the predominant language in Ireland. So why speak Irish? If you intend to seriously lower the number of people that know what the hell you are talking about, go ahead, but otherwise, what's the point?
