I don't mind Irish people (unless they are those really nationlist ones who insist on speaking in Irish) but I think this thread is more directed at Irish Americans.

Let me clear something up, if you are born and live in Ireland, you are Irish. If one of your great grandparents came from Ireland but you were born and live in America, you are American. Not Irish.

But yeah I hate St. Patrick's day, it's retarded. It might as well be called Irish Day, it's got nothing to do with St. Patrick, it's just a load of people buggering about in Guinness hats and green shirts. Oh how Irish.
And since when do Americans have to celebrate it? Get your own holidays. Like Thanksgiving. That's a stupid holiday too.

First, let me state that I haven't read through all the responses to this thread. The topic, something about having intercourse with people of Irish descent, was at first appealing (I like them), until I realized the malicious intent behind the message.

I like the Irish, but reject the stereotypical image we've been handed. I'm half Italian (Sicillian actually) and half Scottish. Talk about stereotypes. Being judged by those standards (and I am sometimes) would have me seen as a stingy criminal with a quick temper and a liking for animal intestines smothered in tomato sauce. Every time I see a cartoon of a fat Italian chef twirling a pizza on some restaraunts advertising I want to put on a plaid skirt and stab the manager with a switchblade, to the sound of Scotland the Brave and the theme from The Godfather. (That was a joke, actually).

All those Leprecauns and green stuff that bombard us around the time of St. Patrick's Day leave me cold. It's evident that people who want to sell stuff to everybody have no shame. It has little to do with Ireland. Joe Columbo died for our sins! That'sa som'a spicy meat'a ball!

Me grandma was 100 percent irish, and from ireland. But I never knew her =P. My grandpa has irish in him too, but i dunno how much. My other grandparents also both have some irish in them, so its safe to say I have a lot of irish blood, and i can assure you, I'm no better at drinking beer than the rest of you! =P 6 beers and im pretty drunk. I dont celerbrate st. pattys day, and if it wern't for the green snowballs(the hostess cake you sicko) and all the drunken parties, I would have never even known it came and went.
And as to the whole fuck the irish thing, yeah go ahead I could also use a lay.

St.Patrick's Day isn't my favourite holiday ~ my kids love the dressing up, the parade, the carnival atmosphere, the day off school............

I am proud to be Irish tho' - not in a "I'm Irish so fuck the rest of you" kinda way but we are generous, we do like a laugh (this stems from our unfortunate climate) and we do, I expect, have as many arseholes in our midst as any of the rest of yis.

Let me clear something up, if you are born and live in Ireland, you are Irish. If one of your great grandparents came from Ireland but you were born and live in America, you are American. Not Irish.

America, unlike most other countries, is a mish-mash of people from all over the place. In fact, I haven't even seen any indigenous Americans for months. The vast majority of us are immigrants or the descendants of immigrants. So people not only identify with their geographical nationality but also the origin of their ancestors, if for nothing but pity for the crappy boat rides they had to take so we could live here (and not, in the case of my ancestors, in a potato-less Ireland or other deplorable conditions in England or France). I'm an American because of where I was born but I'm Irish, English and French because of who I was born to. My people have resided on this continent for less than two centuries, but they lived for millennia in Europe, which is why I look European and speak a European language, even though I live in North America.
