Just a guy interested in Medical Marijuana

I came upon this forum while doing some research on medical marijuana. I am a 26 year old, Orangevale, Ca. resident. I worked for a local well known Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling company until recently. I was injured on the job on July 25th, 2008. I kept this a secret from my employer for 2 months while trying to see if it would "go away". If you have been in the construction field of work you will know where I am coming from. I eventually informed my employer of the injury I had sustained on the job when I had come to the conclusion that it was serious and needed attention and was sent to a company doctor. The company doctor had given me a anti-inflammatory, a muscle relaxer, a note restricting my lifting and bending and told me that I had just pulled a muscle and referred me to a physical therapist. I continued to work and ignore my injury as much as possible because I knew how the economy was turning and winter was coming and I wanted to keep my job. I did not ever go to the physical therapy because it conflicted with my work schedule.

I was fired on November 10th , 2008 for a "jobsite discussion" which I believe is a total lie made up by my former company. They told the E.D.D. that I had been talking about "an experience I had in jail on the jobsite and that a customer had heard me and was scared." Consequently I was denied unemployment benefits.

I am a convicted felon. I was convicted in 2003 of assault with a deadly weapon. I have been complying with all of the probation requirements set by the county. I even voluntarily entered into a 1 year, live in program for people with "life controlling issues". I completed the program. I haven't been in trouble at all since my conviction.

The real reason why I am here is to get information from those of you who have participated in medical marijuana. I am now seeing a back specialist and had a MRI last week. On monday I had an appointment with the back specialist who informed me that I have a "very large herniated disc" in my lower back. I have signed up for Disability Insurance and have since been accepted. The doctor informed me that my disc had herniated and that the area where it did is "rather large but seems to be contained". He gave me a prescription for a giant bottle of vicodin and another for Celebrex.

My back has been like this for over 5 months now which classifies it as a "Chronic Pain" as it is over 3 months. I have had a history of major drug abuse in the past and have been clean since 2003. I was addicted to many "hard drugs". I have not touched them since my incarceration. I am concerned about the Vicodin I am taking as it is very addictive. I am considering Medical Marijuana as a treatment.

I was wondering if anyone out there has had a similar injury and had success with medical marijuana. I know this introduction was long and probably told you all more than you need to know about me but I felt I wanted to be completely honest and disclose all information so I could get the best feedback from all of you. All information that you think will be helpful to me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Thanks a bunch. I think all that will help. I had no idea about the antiinflammitory properties of medical marijuana. I talked to a logal doctor today who is known for giving people a recommendation and I told him about my situation. He wanted a lot of info from me and said he would be able to determine from all of that if I was a person who had a serious medical condition. I forgot to tell him that I'm already on Disability Insurance from E.D.D. here in California. I think I will have all the info he needs in a few days. I just dont want to waste the money on the appointment if he is gonna shoot me down.
