Rubber band a couple or three dollar bills to limbs etc. near the spot you want to grow, go back later and see if someone took them. Then you will know if anybody's roaming around area much before starting a grow there.

I like to use a deadfall or dozer pile etc. That keeps the deer away from plants. Hull out a spot in the middle, dig out soil, replace with potting soil etc., then plant. Blackberry tangle is a good place.

Make sure enough sunlight will reach your spot. I don't know how many times I planted in spring, only to find the place is shaded in summer. These are all pretty obvious suggestion though....you probably already thought of these things.

Most important, don't leave a trail.....go in new way every time and don't check on plants a lot. Have a vantage spot and watch area closely before going to check on plants....Sheriff John Brown likes to hide out and watch your patches!
