i am flying home in a few days and i dont know the rules are with this sort of thing.
am i able to bring a bong (very well cleaned of course) on a plane in my carry on? or will the people stop me and take it out of the bag when they xray it? or is it a terrorist weapon like bottled water and toothpaste?
any suggestions?

I wouldn't do it I'm pretty sure there's a charge for transporting paraphenelia.. you definitely wouldnt be able to bring it on board... If you really need to bring it along, wrap it and pad it really good and stick it in your suitcase. But I might just not risk it, and buy some papers or a smaller little bowl while your at home.

unless you absolutely cannot live without it, why not just mail it home?

Well the classic argument is that if its completely resin-free and you have no marijuana or other marijuana accessories that you'd be able to take it with you. I don't know how well this holds up when your bag undoubtedly gets checked and the TSA attendant, while holding up your bong, gives you a "How fucking stupid are you look?", they might try and get you on some technicality or actually find resin and such.
Additionally, you may not be able to bring it on the plane simply because it could easily be broken and used as a weapon. Mail it home or put it in your checked luggage.

My aunt works at O'hare airport, she said it all depends on the person screening your bag. Most of them are not really all that enthusiastic about their job, and will not notice it, or see it and not care.
But if you get an ahole, my aunt says you're better off leaving the slide at home, and cleaning out the tube really well. You might get hassled, but not arrested.

Yup, even the idea of security is a joke.
My aunt says that there is a better chance of pissing someone off with all the take of your shoes, belt, pants crap and having them turn violent than actually securing you from a so called terrorist.
I just never really understood their ban list... no lighters, nail clippers, 2 oz or more of cologne etc...
You can turn anything into a weapon, hell even some shaprened graphite from a #2 pencil to your neck sounds painful to me, but what you gonna do? Make pencil illegal?

If it's clean I don't see how you're not 100% fine, you can insist it's for tobacco, as head shops do.
