2 LITER SODA BOTTLES?????

hey guys i have a question i plan on putting seedlings outside in may,and if i cut the top and bottom off a 2 liter bottle of soda and put it over one seedling per bottle and stick it 2 inches in the ground, will it be bad to do this i wanna do this just till they get strong enough to withstand slugs and all them good outdoor friends.. then i will be adding a wire fence around base of the plant.. will this be any good or just a waste of time i can cut holes in the bottle to allow airflow and what not any info would be great thanks...

I have started rose cuttings like that. Worked for me.

p.s. You can trap slugs with beer! They love it.
