    Hula Hoop=Exercise?

I just read somewhere that five minutes "hula hooping" will really help work off those calories. Anyone here tried these or the "exercise hoops" I saw for sale? Does it work or not as far good exercise?

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment.

JohnnyZ's 5-step process to being in shape.

    Step 1: Put shoes on.
    Step 2: Go outside.
    Step 3: Start running.
Step 4: Continue running for an extended period of time.
Step 5: Don't waste money on hula hoops.

    LMFAO on "step 5"
It is true though, don't buy stupid stuff to loose weight. Don't eat fast food, don't do sit ups (they don't burn fat), and follow JohnnyZ's guide

I suppose you say buying a jump rope is a waste of money too......

Hula-hoops if you do it for an extended period of time will increase strength in your hip flexors and abs. It is exercise.

NOTHING will burn off calories faster than SEX (unless it's done with me, I'm pretty lethargic , even during that) ... :S2:

    Me too!
    So.

Allow me to submit Wee Zard's 5 point plan.

    1. Borrow brightly colored hula hoop.
    2. Put shoes on.
    3. Go outside. (bring dogs)
    4. Place hoop, and begin to run. (Try to hula while running.)
    5. Any self respecting dog will then promptly drag your embarassing ass back inside where you both can pig out on tasteless, 1 calorie puffed rice cakes and puppy love.

    Cereally! Give yerself a break.
Every body has a blueprint in it's genes.
There's a size and shape that is "normal" for each particular body.
Constantly fighting one's genetic building plan can't be good for you, physically, or emotionally.

    Chowing down on real food.
Home-grown, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and getting a resonable amount of exercise will let your body, do it's thing.
    Whatever that may be.
    Then, it's about acceptance, ya?

Walking and swimming are prolly the most balanced and productive exercise for staying healthy.
And if you just don't feel like it, some times, then don't.
I'm willin' to bet that Mr. Hound, and your critters, love you "warts and all."

Geeze Weedy! You seem to bring out the "Dutch Uncle" in me.

    Never mind.

    Aloha,
    Weeze

    Hula Hoop=Exercise?

Well sex I do like lol, just not running.

Weeze....seriously, I haven't felt this good in years. I've been hiking a mile a day with one of the shepherds quite simply BECAUSE I CAN!!! I was only off the ciggies for about six months before the cancer started growing (a guess from my cancer doc) but winter is here and it is supposed to snow this weekend. I have NO intention of giving up my newfound energy and easy breathing whiling away during winter.....we FULLY intend to be ready for next sumer's rafting.

So I needed something that would work indoors during bad weather and I wasn't kidding about hating running......or anything that actually even SMELLS like true exercise. The hula hoop manages to avoid having the "appearance" of exercise and I used to be pretty darn good as a kid even if do say so myself.

Nothing done for five minutes burns off many calories, including sex!

I would change to Step 4: Continue [exercise] for an extended period of time.

    Hula Hoop=Exercise?

Gotcha.....do the crime, gotta put in the time. Still easier for me to hula hoop than attempt.....say.....100 runs around the pool table in the middle of winter.

Thanks you guys for all the answers.
