    Oldest seeds successfully germinated??

I was just thinking about some seeds I had from 10th grade (8 years ago) from probably some of the trippiest dankest shit I've ever smoked.

So it occurred to me to ask:

What are the oldest seeds anyone has actually grown out?

I think I heard someone say they did some 10 year old ones, but I can't confirm.

    Experiences, stories, fairytales please.

I have some going well and over 1 month old that are from seeds a little over 20 years old. I actually grew others from this batch in 1987. This is the first grow since then. Out of 10 tried, 7 germinated and 6 have survived.

On another cannabis site, word is that thousands of Panama Red seeds were found in storage, up in Alaska. Reputable breeder, (ReeferMan...same guy I got my PokerFace strain from years ago) so I'm wanting to believe the story, but marketing on emotions is a powerful tool. Panama Red disappeared decades ago, (in the late 70's...?) but he said he germed some out (low germ rates, but successful) selected the heartiest, with best Panama Red characteristics. I believe that by now he's selling them, but I haven't been back there in a while.

Personal experience, tho...I keep my seeds in a dark closet in a couple of those clear jar spice racks. 12 bottles on a wood-framed carrousel. I've germed seeds that are up to 8 years old, but I have none that are older, so can't really go beyond that. Keep 'em dry and dark...they last quite a while. Make sure the seeds are dry and free of leaf-litter. Mold can form quickly.

Most folks in here freak at the mere mention, but gibrellic acid can be used to force stubborn hard-shelled seeds to pop. I've used it a few of times on palm seeds and old cannabis seeds. (MegaGrow.com)

A light scuff along the seed suture with fine sandpaper often helps, too.

I planted and grew out some thai sativa seeds I got in 1972 in Udorn Thailand, in 1995......23 year old seeds. Planted 50 beans and had about a 60% germination rate. That's the oldest seeds I have ever tried.

Most of the seeds I have are kept in vacum sealed mason jars BTW.
Keep it civil please, gentlemen. -StinkyAttic

Someone has a Panama Red seed cache? That would be great. In Jorge Cervantes' newest DVD's called Ultimate Grow complete box set, someone is growing Panama Red so someone has the genetics. Oh man.... I remember the days back in 75, that stuff was kickin'
