I prefer to break my buds up by hand on a waxed paper plate, and clean out all the little bits of lumber. I can then put it in a bowl, roll joints, or load my dugout for carrying in my pocket for outside avtivities.

If you want to take it a step further, go to a pottery supply store and get yourself a couple of fine mesh sieves. They have small ones to large ones depending upon your need. At least 120 mesh, sifted on an angle you get two grades of ripe tricomes. Makes super fine hash with just gentle sifting and another grade with a little pressure. Not too much pressure because you will get too much plant material. Just dropping dried buds without crushing gets you the primo, primo, gentle pressure zero-zero or double ought, and light pressure gets you the last run worth smoking.

I'd recommend at least a 1/4 oz to try any of the above after hand breaking buds. :rasta:
