The ideal situation for any of the current crop elected politicians would be to have his or her piece of legislature alleviate the current economic crisis. The problem is obvious, any study of 6 month gas prices will tell you that aggregate demand has fallen. How do we increase it?

President elect Obama desires a large increase in renewable fuel energy. My question is, how would such a plan be successful with the current price of fuel. Even at high prices, gasoline was still more demanded (and more supplied) than ethanol. So demand is the problem needed to be addressed.

Banks are scared to freaking death! Excess reserves are at super levels click to see. If banks do not lend, how can the economy get back to previous levels (recover)? How do we avoid a "liquidity trap"?

It is really sad we all have to wait until January for government to function as it ought to, the service of citizens best interests. For this reason alone, i do not believe government intervention to be capable of doing the good it is supposed to do. Yes our government does great things, but it is obvious they cannot manage everything. Maybe they can; there is a valid argument to be made for the American psyche to be more self reliant, where as the European view to be more in tuned to central control (history of kings and totalitarian rule).

Umm... Prohibition... Has... Failed...:vap_smiley:

So............., while the US government cannot effectively control your demand, they can provide you a road to travel on. They can also protect your borders and provide protection of your rights. Possibly some other things. I just wish they would stop interfering with natural order.
