Day 25

This is when it gets ugly for me. I was doing my usual daily maintenance and noticed what looked like patches of white mold growing on the high points on my soil. Closer inspection revealed millions of tiny white mites crawling around on the dirt. The mites only infected 1 of the 4 plants at first which I moved out of the box and destroyed. The other plants got infected a few days later, probably with eggs that had been laid earlier. I bought a pyrethrum ā??vegetable safeā? insecticide spray at my local hardware store, and sprayed daily until the bugs were all gone. It cleaned up the majority of the bugs the first day then I was spot treating small areas for the next few days. Eventually it killed all of the bugs. This might have had an influence on the overall harvest weight, but I donā??t think it really did that much damage. The actual plants were never infested and I only sprayed them once (I usually just sprayed the dirt).
