Best place to buy lighting in U.K.
I've been growing my baby for 4 weeks now under a 20w gro-lux floro-tube, she's reached approx. 12 inches tall and about the same span across.(another thing what is the size of 1 set or 1 hand of leaves mine are 5 inhes in diameter..is this correct?)
The growth rate seemed pretty slow to wot I've been reading on the net ...I managed to get hold of a couple of Halogen exterior floodlights ..installed them ... 1 leave started to look strange .... high heat output!!!!.. so moved them further away ... now okay .... but i've just read that halogens are no good.
The closet (which I moved her into today)I'm growing in, is pretty cold so i've kept the 1 halogen on for heating and reverted back to the gro-lux 20w.
Now..... I HAVE got 3 250w metal halide bulbs (twin ended) Who in the U.K. is a mainstream supplier of these ...like B&Q ...etc.etc.
All the lighting shops i've been to, think i'm talking out of my arse!!!!

Hi, well 20W aint gonna get you far, you can grow with flurescent bulbs, I think it takes longer though... stuff those halogen light, they are a complete waste of time.
HPS/HID is the way to go...
you saidl.... "Now..... I HAVE got 3 250w metal halide bulbs (twin ended)"
Is that just the bulb or the whole kit?... if so your need a ballast & a reflector.
I buy all my stuff from http://hydroponics-hydroponics.com/ quite cheap.
hope this helps... dude0

For lighting I would try www.growingobsessions.co.uk. The owner of the place certainly goes the extra mile and has keen prices. Beware of Hydroponics-hydroponics.com as the cheap lights are exactly that, the ballasts are not even boxed

Take a look at http://www.growell.co.uk ---this is a good company, prices are OK and the delivery service is excellent, goods are well packaged and gets to your house quickly. They respond to e-mails quickly aswell. I've bought stuff from them several times and the only complaint I have is it takes ages to get all the bubble-wrap off they put lots on LOL!
I've also bought from http://www.hydroponics.co.uk ----good shop.
Fuck the halogens right off, they're useless for growing plants, wrong spectrum and they're too hot.
You won't usually find metal halide in a DIY store, they only sell sodium lamps normally, like security lamps and industrial/factory lighting. They come in 70w, 150w and 250w. It's best to buy from a hydro shop anyway.
P.S- Not really a good idea to ask at a DIY shop for these lamps. I know you could say you need it for an outdoor security lamp or something but you don't know who you're talking to. Best to be safe and have peace of mind.
