    Vaporizers and post nasal drip

I am 23 years old and over the last year or so I have developed a medical problem.

It's called post nasal drip. My allergest has told me that it is rather common but I haven't really known anyone who has ever come down with this so I am not expecting anyone to really know what it is. Basically, I have the equivalent of a runny nose. However, the difference is that instead of mucus coming out of my nose it runs up the top of my nose and goes into my throat which then causes somewhat of a gag reflex. (I don't actually gag.) By gag reflex, it feels like my throat is clogged like when you have a cold and I have to clear myself and out comes a bunch of gross white stuff. I have had this problem for a year now, have seen 3 different doctors, and have taken lots of different medications. I have seen a general practitioner, an ENT, (ear nose throat) and finally an allergist. It has come to the conclusion that I have allergies. I have had extensive allergy testing however the tests could not prove what was wrong with me. As a result I was diagnosed with non-allergic rhinitis.

I saw the allergist for the last time and we discussed my situation. Like every other doctor, I have brought up my smoking of weed. All three have said the same thing. That is, smoking weed doesn't actually cause the post nasal drip however "smoking" can aggravate it and make it act up. The doctor that I saw reccommended if I can to not smoke anymore.

Also, what I have is considered a disease and is incurable and it can only be treated the way something like diabetes can only be treated.

I have been a heavy pot smoker for 5 years. Since I have developed this condition I have cut back immensely on my pot smoking but I am so addicted/obsessed with weed that I don't ever see myself quitting.

That brings me to the subject of this post. Since I don't see myself quitting smoking, I have thought of the next best thing. Vaporizers. I have heard numerous times that vaporizing THC is the most effective/safest way to smoke. I personally have never smoked out of a vaporizer and don't know much about them.

My question is: Anyone who is familiar with my problem or knows about vaporizers... Since "smoking" aggravates my condition and makes it impossible to ever get better would taking in vapor as opposed to smoke make any difference? I know that vapor is much better then smoking but I still think that vapor would still potentially aggravate the problem.

Also, a friend of mine has told me that vaporizers take a lot of weed. How accurate is this statement? If he is right, how much is a lot? 1/2 gram per session? More? Less? Anyone have any reccomendations on what the best vaporizer is in terms of how much weed it uses.

I am really disappointed that is has come down to this and don't want to live the rest of my life without my precious mary jane.

    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

    Vaporizers and post nasal drip

Tough situation....I'll give you my experience and I hope it helps you in some way....

I was a joint a day smoker for 10 years.....I was starting to get a chest infections, got colds all the time, my health was suffering but I didn't wanna stop doing it, despite the risks....then I found forums like these and it changed my life....since I started using the Herbalaire vaporizer a year ago, I very rarely get colds, no chest infections, no cough, I have better endurance when I play hockey, my chest isn't tight all the time....the only trade off for me is that to truly get the health benefits out of the vaporizer, I can't get the full body stone....I miss it but I don't want to turn the temperature up too much or I may as well be smoking it....it has it's advantages though....you can still do stuff and not feel like crashing....great for the daytime cause you still have lots of energy to get stuff done....not as great at night if you wanna chill....depends on the strain though.
I've smoked a couple with friends and it is NAAAAAASTY....can't stand the taste and smell of smoke anymore....it didn't take long to feel that way either, maybe a month....anyways, all I can say is that it's allowed me to continue my love affair with MJ (don't tell my wife) and do it so that there is as little damage to my body as possible.....good luck to you!

Oh and to answer your question, they use very little, maybe .2Grams to get you wrecked.....it's maybe about a bowl or a litle less.

    Vaporizers and post nasal drip

I recently put up a thread about the negative respiratory effects of vaporizers.

I am not sure how similar our situations are, but I have chronic bronchitis caused by ridiculously bad allergies...

vaporizing is a must for people like us I believe, because smoking is bad enough for normal people, much less anyone with respiratory issues.

Although you will have to be careful to keep the temperature on your vape on a low setting, and possibly use an extra filter, you will find vaporizing to be far, far healthier, not to mention it tastes better.

My vaporbros uses about 1/3 gram for a good bowl, so probably slightly less erb than required for a smoked bowl. The effects are a little less pronounced, and more mental than physical.

    cheers :rastasmoke:

    Vaporizers and post nasal drip

I had post nasal drip a few years ago, its really no big deal. I had the "gag reflex" kind of deal that you stated as well as a constant sore throat because of the nasal drip agitating my throat. A vape will be your best bet man. I don't think smoking weed in general would worsen your condition, its not bronchitis or anything, but a vape will save your lungs a lot of damage. I have gotten pot related bronchitis numerous times and the only way to stop it is use a vape or quit smoking for a week or 2 and it clears right up good as new  Vapes also give a great body high no matter what the weed and is great to get through the day with a nice high that doesn't effect the mind at all so you can go to work, school, etc...Get the volcano if you can spare 600$ its by far the best. If not look into any vape before buying one because there are a lot of them out there that are lemons and you don't want to spend 200 bucks on something that is a POS like i did. DO NOT buy the Mt. Fugi volcano wannabe...it will break in like two weeks its terrible biggest waste of 200 bucks ever

    Vaporizers and post nasal drip

I have a similar situation, the congestion, my alergist put me on Nexium and it worked great. Apparently I had some reflux going on, that I did not know about. Tried the nexium for a couple days and whalaa! no more congestion or running nose.

I have a Volcano, my wife gave it to me as a gift for my birthday! (What a woman!) I use far less erb with the volcano than a bowl, joint or bong. I would guess about 1/3 less consumption. I found that I can pack smaller bowls and vape them 2-3 times before they are spent. The left over duff can be ground and vaped again, made into butter or smoked. When you clean the Volcano parts you use ISO Alcohol. Take the "dirty" alcohol, pour in a glass cake pan and let it evaporate, scrape pan and save for a rainy day!
