    Bad experience with DieselRyder germination.

Here is a little background before I begin my rant:

I have grown several crops before this one and have a small, but extremely nice grow room. In my grow room, I have a 2'X4' tray for potted plants which is illuminated by 6X 2-Tube T8 fixtures. This section is usually used for non-cannabis plants but I plan on making a change soon. My plan was to have the back row of this tray filled with mother plants (as a backup to my mother cabinet), and in the front row I was going to have 4-8 Lowryder plants on a rotational harvest (harvesting one plant every week or two) so that I could have something to look forward to every other weekend.

I purchased 10X DieselRyder seeds from an online seed bank and they arrived in about five days. I immediately stuck them in a damp paper towel and placed them on a plate on a heated mat. This is where the problems began.

Eight of the seeds had cracked, and two of them did not. I force-cracked the two others, accidently damaging one. Leaving me with nine cracked seeds. I wated a few more days and then placed them into rockwool cubes. Two of those nine seeds sprouted and broke themselves in half by deciding to grow upside-down. I was left with seven seedlings. One of them just stalled and hasn't done anything. Down to six. Those six seedlings started showing their first leaves (not true-leaves). A day or so later two of them had pushed themselves out of the rockwool--Completely out I don't know how! When placing them back into the cubes I broke the stem on one more of them. If you are keeping count that is only 5 left. And thats where I am at now.

I am not sure if this is a poor trait of this cannabis strain or what. I have grown TONS of plants from seed and NEVER ONCE had a problem like this before. I was hoping to have at least 4 seedy females for a personal stash, but now I am just hoping to have one male and one female so that I can do a seed run. I am pretty worried that I won't even have that.

So that is my rant. These DieselRyder seeds have been the worst seeds I have ever sprouted in my life. The seed-shells are pretty thick, the stems are the most brittle stems I have ever dealt with, and some of them just seem to want to stall completely. I have grown tons of bagseed as well as some nice 'named' strains--But this is truly the worst experience I have ever had growing a cannabis plant from seed. Take from this what you will.

Edit: I just took another look at the plants and noticed that one of the slow growing ones was actually dead. It's tap root had snapped as well. It seems like that roots of these plants are growing UPWARDS instead of down and in the direction that I placed them. All but one of the four remaining plants have their taproot growing up as well. Is this some sort of genetic trait or a sick joke?!

I just looked at my three remaining plants and noticed that one of the tap roots just snapped in two for absolutely no reason at all. It was just sitting in the cube in one piece one minute and then this evening I found it broken clean in two.

Man, this really bums me out. I was going to give it another shot with 10 more seeds but the seedbank is out of stock on that item. Sad days... sad days.

I would love to ask a question though:

If I manage to get one female and one male plant, pollinate the female, will all of the seeds display the same traits as the original 10 seeds that I bought? I mean, DieselRyder seeds don't come from an F1 hybrid or anything do they? Don't they just do the same thing that I would be doing (take a random male plant and a random female plant and breed them to male DieselRyder seeds)?

    Any answers are appreciated.

And to anyone coming across this who is having problems with DieselRyder germination, I think that you must make sure to not give them too much water. Plenty of my seedlings died due to root rot in well drained rockwool cubes. I would also suggest making the planting hole much bigger in diameter as the tap roots tend to get twisted and gnarrled and not grow through the medium.

In accordance with the forum guidelines, could this please be transferred to the 'strains and seeds' section under the growing forums?

Hi, I had some problems with my dieselryder grow too but not during germ. I had one that did the upside down thing and I was able to turn her around and she is doing fine. All 7 of mine germ'd and all were growing looking good though one was a little slow. After 3 weeks of good growing with no signs of any pending problem all developing flowers 4 just whithered and died. Fortunately I am left with two girls and one boy so hopefully I'll get some beans but I am not all that thrilled with this strain so far.
