New to site - Question on stem repair

Ok so here it goes, i have a semi-severed mainstem (almost all the way) that i am trying to heal on a 45 degree. I have bandaided the break, but am wondering if i have too much of a gap between the broken area. It has been 2 days since the break, the broken top seems to be weak but hanging on. It almost seems as though half of the top is o.k and the other half is really struggling. Can plants eventually seal the gap? and is there any type of product i could use to help the process?
