Internodes Spacing
One of the main reason a plants stretches (besides just growing) is that it is seeking more light, and can easily be caused by positioning the light too far from the plant. Always keep the plant and the light as close to possible as long as the plant can stand the heat. Obviously you would have to keep a 1000W light farther away than you would a 250W light. If it still stretches, then its time to tie the top down, and new tops will develop making the plant bushier. You could also top (cut) the plant, and the plant will bush out.
