Aloha dankdadank,

Just to eliminate any confusion.

Those little orange clay marbles are called Hydrotron pellets.
They are your grow-media.
New Hydrotron needs to be soaked in PH 5-6 water for a day or so to neutralize it's natural alkalinity.
Then rinsed thoroughly before use.

"Nutes" is short for nutrients.

Hope you are not trying to feed new seedlings.
They should have no nutes for the first week or so, just water.
Then it's best to start them with 1/4 strength for a while, then increase the strength slowly as they grow.

Different strains will require/tolerate different nute concentrations. So it's best to increase the PPM in small increments.
If the tips of the leaves start to brown, back off a little and you should be "in the ballpark".

Painting the tub black, or wrappin it in contact paper, or foil, or duct tape will keep the light out jus' fine.
I just set my tubs in a black plastic trash bag and then cover the top with Reflectix.
Keeps the light from the roots, relects the light to the plant and catches spills.

Havin' fun yet?
