    Sick Seedling

    Hi,

I'm growing 2 Snow White plants. They are about 2 weeks old. Things have been going good so far until a few days ago. Both seedlings showed signs of over watering and I believe I was over watering them. So I cut back on watering them and both improved. Then the day after they improved, one took a weird turn. The leaves started curling up and changed in color from green to yellow to a brownish color. The larger leaves changed first and then the smaller leaves

Both plants have grown to their second node. I have them in small, plastic dixie cups with unfertilized seedling soil. I have not started nutrients. Just using tap water that has a pH level of about 7.5. Both plants are in a grow tent. The only light I have is a 600 Watt HPS/MH conversion bulb in a 6 inch cool tube. I have kept this light about 18 to 24 inches above the plants the entire time (I know this light is too much but it was the only light I have right now). Temperature has remained very steady at 75 degrees F. Humidity was very low (in the low 20% range) until I added a humidifier in the tent which raised the humidity to around 43% and has stayed there. I'm using a 6 inch 449 CFM Vortex fan for ventalation. I'm pulling air out of the tent, through the cool tube, and venting into the room.

Here are some pictures of the sick seedling:

    Hi All !!!!

iamthelizard do you have drain holes poked into the plastic cups?

Personally I would move the light even higher to make sure I am not burning the seedlings.

Put your hand just above the seedlings and see how hot it gets.

    Good Luck

Yes, there are many drain holes poked in the plastic cups.

I can place my hand directly above the plants and hold it there. It isn't hot at all. I am tracking the temperatures at 2 points within the tent. The first point is at the top of the tent and the second point is near the plants. Both are holding steady temps in the mid 70's. I will raise the light this morning when I go and check on them just to be sure I'm not burning them.

    Thanks again for the advice.

Is that fresh, or used soil...and did you give any nutes or additives? (they look nute-fried)

My thoughts also Rusty but he said no nutes in seedling soil.

I would bring down the ph to at most 7.0

I used fresh soil that I got from a local grow shop. It was just basic unfertilized, seedling soil. The only thing I have given them so far is plain tap water that I have let sit out and come to room temperature.

I only have the 2 plants. I have treated both of them the same. One looks terrible and the other looks fine and is starting to grow its third node.

I'm going to head out to my local grow shop today and pick up some pH down. When I was gathering up the items I would need to grow, I grabbed some pH up planning to use it to raise the pH when I eventually started using nutrients. I didn't think I would need the pH down.

Good catch, Dread. Guess I skimmed right over that. (holds head down, in shame...and takes the requisite penalty toke)

More tword the 6.8 ph is where I aim. My water is 7.9 to 8 out of the tap, but my plants love the phosphoric acid. (General Hydroponics ph down)

they're overpowered by that big 600-watt lamp :wtf: ... I'm talking about light-stress, not heat-stress ... move it about 3 feet away, don't move it closer, until they green up, and start to stretch a bit ... seedlings like that belong in milder light until they grow a bit ... good luck :smokin:
