    a few q's after my 1st grow

just finished my first grow and have a few questions before i start my next grow
what dictates the height of a plant? is it the amount of light you have or the size of your pots, i grew in 6 litre pots and the plants were pretty root bound and were only a foot and a half tall(is this height normal for a 400w hps) next grow i was thinking of a 9 litre pot,
second question what is better soil or soiless ,i used a ferterlised potting mix this grow and suffered bad nute burn, so figured out best to use a non ferted medium next time,

what dictates the height of a plant? well there are actually a few variables that dictate the size of the plant. 1. being the genetics. there are autoflower strains that are genetically short. 2. you can "train" the plant and force it to be bushier. which is LST.is it the amount of light you have or the size of your pots, i grew in 6 litre pots and the plants were pretty root bound and were only a foot and a half tall(is this height normal for a 400w hps) next grow i was thinking of a 9 litre pot, well like you said you clearly needed a bigger pot, root bound. obviously when the plant is root bound then it going to focusing more att. on the roots and stress, rather than the buds shes supposed to be producing. so yes start out in solo party cups. and then gradually step your way up as your plants tell you to do so.
second question what is better soil or soiless ,i used a ferterlised potting mix this grow and suffered bad nute burn, so figured out best to use a non ferted medium next time,
judging from this post i doubt you suffered from only nute burn. but yes im sure it was in the mix. you should really hit up those DARK GREEN threads at the top of every subforum. they will help alot.

yes ,i feel i was a little undone thinking i could take what i do outside and use it for indoor growing,i did a lot of reading before my first grow but there is such much more to learn
i wont be starting my second grow for a month or two due to coming into my summer where we get 30 c plus temps and where my grow is, it gets closer to 40 c

cool, means you have a bit of time to get some reading in for the basics.

when it comes to gardening you can never really stop learning. Every strain is different and every grow is different. just takes a little time to get it to a T.

You might want to have a look at my thread on dealing with heat issues. (in my signature) It might help ya decide to at least try it out as a learning experience.
