Indoor closet grow, advice needed.
Sorry, the OP was in the wrong forum...
Hey everyone, I've been on the board for a while, and I think I've finally decided to start growing. I have a couple of pressing questions before I start, so I'd love some help! I've done a lot of reading, so hopefully I'm not asking noob questions or something. Anyway, on to the important stuff.
I'm planning on growing in two stacked rubbermaids; I've already cut them out and lined them with mylar. I plan on getting an 80 cfm computer fan to put on top for exhaust with a 2.5 inch hole in the bottom for passive intake. I'm going to put a diy carbon filter over the fan for exhaust cleaning to keep the room from smelling. I'd like to go with 4 cfls that I'll change color temp when I go to flowering.
1. I live in an apartment with mostly families, however I am a college senior. I've been living here for around 5 months without my landlord ever coming in or asking questions. I'm never loud or cause any trouble, and don't really see my neighbors. The cab is in my closet that isn't adjacent or below any water fixtures or anything that maintenance will need to get to. Is this a really bad idea or not? I've been growing mushrooms in there for months with no problems, and they take up the same amount of space I'm thinking, so any input here?
2. I want a strain that won't get tall or smell much. As I understand, NL is a great strain if I'm looking to keep the smell down, is this good? I also need a plant that will stay small, I'm willing to do LST to keep the size down, but will that keep it small? From bottom to top, my rubbermaids are about 2.5 feet tall, I know that is small. The other strain I was thinking was a lowryder joint doctor strain from Dr. Chronic that claims it gets no taller than 12". I'm going for a combination of small size and low smell, any suggestions?
3. Will smell be a problem with a homemade carbon filter over my fan? I doubt it would be an issue either way, but I'd hate to risk it. I'm open to air fresheners as well, but when I'm gone I'd like there to be no smell.
4. With 4 cfls total, will that make my electric bill go up noticably? Conversely, will that be enough for one plant? I plan on starting two, hopefully with at least one female.
I don't know if I'm missing anything, but I'd love input. If you guys say this is a bad idea, I probably won't do it, but I love to grow things and would love to be self-sufficient from here on out. Haha, I have that part under wraps, no one knows about the fung op I had going on for a while. I don't plan on selling anything either, so I'm hoping I'll be good. Does anyone have any idea about my other questions before I get really set on this? I've been wanting to do it for a while, I just wanna get answers to my doubts first.

Oh and it's two 18 gallons stacked. I know it's not big, but I just wanna grow one plant so I can have some bud for a while. It's been dry as fuck around here, and 50 for an eighth of mids is garbage, so here I am

Cool, that's what I was hoping! I know my grow space is small, but with LST I could keep the plant small enough right? I'm going to try some bagseed for now, you guys think that would be alright? With the carbon filter on the exhaust I am hoping to eliminate the smell, will that work?
Thanks again!

you can probably remove most smell but not all, air fresheners will do the rest.

I hear ya and understand...You sure you wanna start growing now???Growing is one of the best things that ever happened to me but know this,"IT CAN BE VERY DISTRACTING"!!!You're a senior in college...Unless your major is horticulture, why not wait until you graduate...Whatever you do,may the force be with you friend...

I don't think an 80 cfm computer fan will clean much if any smell, it's just too small. From my experience, you're going to need 400 cfm+ to pass air through a carbon filter. The 80 cfm may or may not be enough to exchange air in the grow area depending on temps, etc. In this instance, you would use a larger fan for the smell, all within the grow area, and a smaller fan to exchange the air.
Best of luck,
Dan
