    The World According to Monsanto

This documentary found its way to me, I don't think it belongs in the conspiracy part of the forum but I'm quite certain that it would end up here either way.

On March 11 a new documentary was aired on French television (ARTE -- French-German cultural tv channel) by French journalist and film maker Marie-Monique Robin, The World According to Monsanto - A documentary that Americans won't ever see. The gigantic biotech corporation Monsanto is threatening to destroy the agricultural biodiversity which has served mankind for thousands of years.

part 2 YouTube - The World According to Monsanto (part 2 of 10)
    part 3
YouTube - The World According to Monsanto (part 3 of 10)

There are 10 parts, just navigate to them thru the related videos section on youtube, make sure they are from the same person because other people have posted the documentary and all the titles are pretty much the same.

    The World According to Monsanto

Sad isn't it. I know farmers here in the US are some of the dumbest shits on the planet. They've been killing people for decades. Herbicides, low level radioactive waste used for fertilizers because the soil has been so abused it won't grow anything anymore. And the farmers are so brain dead they don't even grow ther own seed any more. They buy seed to grow cops that is genetically engineered not to produce viable seeds.
All this nonsense about cancer causing food we're eating. It isn't the food, its the chemicals these corrupt farmers and ranchers are adding to the food that is killing everyone. But nobody seems to care.
I guess its called the dumbing down of America.

I actually saw another documentary like this one on TV here in Finland. This documentary had some more things, like why this was never aired in the U.S., and how pigs eating the genetically modified corn couldn't give birth to live piggies.

This one is pretty good also. Watch it, and ask yourself, "What if they controlled OUR seeds?"....if not already.

I think this goes far beyond conspiracy. It threatens our right to grow our own food without purchasing that right from Monsanto, or ADM, or DuPont, or whoever holds the patent on that crop.

I'm going to move it to Science, because this is very much of scientific concern. Thanks for posting it!

yeah, we're the World's largest producer of food, but we're 'dumb' as fuck ... it's amazing how 'dumb' people can be so productive, and useful ... guess it would be better to be a 3rd world country full of starving people, or dying from diseases caused by using their shit for fertilizer ... if we go 'all organic', then we can stop sending free food to the poorer countries, because we won't be able to produce enough food, to feed ourselves ... :wtf:

We shouldn't be sending free food to other countries anyway. Teach them to grow themselves. Help them with drilling wells. If we just keep feeding the world they'll never learn or have the desire to grow on there own.
We could grow just as much crops organically as we do now. Absolutely no reason we couldn't except we keep building strip malls on the best growing areas. A perfect example is here in Washington. Some of the best growing soil in the state is the Kent Valley. Stretches from Seattle to Puyallup. Its all be paved over and made into strip malls and parking lots.

after rewatching the video i saw another one where monsanto is trying to or already got a patient on a naturally occuring gene in pigs.

monsanto truely almost owns most the food supply
they own about 70-80 percent of seeds sold, and everything their crops contaminate landrace, since the gene has corrupted the landrace varietys and local farmers, now monsanto owns them and they have bankrupted and made millions on the backs of poor
their transgenic crops have already contaminated most landrace crops
its documented that gmo's cause problems in animals and humans alike.
the fda has recently allowed the sugar beat to be gm and should be on our shelves right now or any time now. they are allowing gm of our meats,
and the fda has stated that companies dont have to tell you their products are gm or what they modifyed their products with.

I don't like the concept of GM. But it is for a VERY specific reason.

It is NOT because I think it is like 'playing God'.
It is also not because I have reason to believe that GM food inherently has health effects on humans- there is no doubt in my mind that food crops CAN be safely modified for human consumption.

It IS because I do not believe it is anyone's right to patent a food crop and exercise the patent rights in such a way that food producers are hurt.
It is also because I don't like the idea of GM pollen getting into the environment, where it can fuck up nearby farming operations. Let's take for example a dude growing a nice plot of yummy heirloom tomatoes. Because I feel like being dramatic like Fox news, let's say that these are the tomatoes from seeds his ancestors stashed in their pockets when they escaped from behind the Iron Curtain. No need to dramatize it, because people ARE very attached to the vegetable varieties that their great great great grandparents handed down. So anyway this farmer has been happily growing these veggies for years and selling them at his roadside stand and canning them for the winter. Now, one year, the farmer upwind from him buys a couple pounds of GM tomato seed and plants an acre of it. June comes, the flowers open, and the pollen spreads over not only his field, but over the field of the heirloom grower (yes, I am aware that tomatoes are insect pollinated). He harvests his uglier tomatoes for seed and soaks the rotting flesh like you're supposed to, strains and dries the seeds, gets his garden turned over, and turns in for the winter.
Next spring he goes to plant his seeds.
His germination rate is HORRIBLE. He wonders if he fucked up, shrugs, and puts out the plants that he's got. He notes some oddball looking plants that give poor fruit, too, but thinks it was his own error.
Another summer goes by and the farmer upwind, delighted with his bumper crop of cardboard supermarket food, puts in an order for anotehr round of seed.
Meanwhile the GM pollen again invades the other guy's garden and once again... he ends up with low germ rates. And weak plants.
WTF! he asks himself, not realizing that he's on the receiving end of a real shit deal whereby his heirloom tomatoes are being pollinated not only by other heirlooms, but also by the GM ones upwind, and any seeds that aren't sterile are either still herilooms or some hybrid with the GM crop. Eventually the %heirloom drops and he's got some crappy plant that just doesn't suit his style or his taste.
Also remember that adding these GM genes to a population does not necessarily give those traits to the population. They may be recessive. They may have some combination of genes that are detrimental to plant health when combined with other genes in wild or heirloom crops. This is all shit that we should probably get ourselves VERY familiar with before we hand over the right to grow healthy food crops solely to anyone who chooses to sell his soul to Monsanto.

Take greed and carelessness out of the equation and GM food might be an option. But IMVHO the plants should be bred to be STERILE and COMPLETELY unable to produce viable seed or pollen, thus interfering with other strains.
