My college roommate turned me on to this phenomenal magazine...check it out, people! It's basically the countercultural outlet for celebration of artistry and culture, and every issue bashes the shit out of the pharmaceutical companies, the mass media, our social fabric, etc. I'm in love with it, and it's comforting to know there are people who share my views, as philistine-saturated as the world's become.

Adbusters is part of a larger "cultural movement" called culturejamming. It's super interesting. There's some pretty sick scholarly literature on the subject if you're interested

Chomsky is the shit. He definitely understands the media.
Banksy, the graffiti artist, also is probably part of this movement. Ever seen any of his work? lovvvve him
Here are some articles/good links. If you're in college/have other access to JSTOR, you can always search for the term. It's nice. The "andre the giant has a posse" stuff is hilarious, too.
You can just look it up in wikipedia or google it or something, it rocks
ABRUPT < culture jamming group.
Culture Jamming 101 < if you're planning on doin' a lil jamming.
That last link actually includes a lot of the good articles on the subject. easy for me

In grade 12 we watched a bunch of documentaries on Noam Chomsky in World Issues class. The guy has exposed the media so much it's amazing, yet little reaction has come from it. It might be due to the fact he could put a cokehead to sleep with his monologues.
