i never got ID'd until they changed the laws here in regards to tabacco products. since all that shit has to be hidden at stores now ive found all headshops following suit (obviously) and now ID'ing people for blunt wraps.
jayson Reviewed by jayson on . Question for Canadians I hear from Canadians that you can possess small quantidies of pot as well as grow for personal use only... If you do get caught with a small amount of pot on you is it just a small fine or can the cop take you to Jail??? And I also heard on the news and from others that places like Toronto, Quebec and Vancouver have actual coffee shops to purchase small amounts of weed... god that sounds awesome! Info would be highly appreciated from fellow Canadians.... Peace and may MJ be with Rating: 5

    Question for Canadians

Im from Quebec (the province), and Ive heard of smokeshops, but never been to one, and my brother once had to spend a day in jail for possession (under a gram). He then had to do a little amount of anti-drug counseling which is pretty ridiculous since he was 15 at the time.

Other wise tho its pretty relaxed. On 420 over 2,000 people smoke up next to/in front of the parliament building in Ottawa with police officers simply enjoying the show.

    Question for Canadians

It is illegal everywhere in Canada. Similar to the US we have our federal laws. Medical marijuana is legal and I'm pretty sure you need a permit to buy from the compassion clubs in BC and elsewhere. You also need a doctor to sign off on your permit and that is difficult if not impossible unless you are really and truly sick.

That said, the police are pretty lenient if you don't give them a hard time. If you get caught by police with a small amount they will usually confiscate and let you go. UNLESS, you are acting spaced out, aggressive, or generally being a dick. Then they can, and will, arrest you. Also, if you happen to be caught by an ultra-conservative cop then they will probably just arrest you and be happy doing it.

The good news is sentencing is nowhere near as severe as in the US...yet. For growing, automatic jail time doesn't kick in until over 500 plants, which is way more than any hobby grower ever has going at one time.

The lesson is be smart, careful and don't get caught.
