Closet growing + fan/ventilation

Hey. New to the message board. Hello to all. Quick Question;
I'm setting up a simple closet hydro set-up for four plants. Gonna use 250w light. How neccessary is a cooling/extractor fan? My plan was to open the doors of the closet at intervals during the day and allow a standard household oscillating fan blow in on the plants. Totalling about 3 hours a day (I work from home, hence I'll be near the plants all the time).

Will this work as I want to avoid the expense, noise and construction of a fan within the cupboard. I need to keep it looking like a normal cupboard as best I can.

Any feedback appreciated.

Yes a fan is good for the plant as it makes the plant grow stronger. Plants need fresh air though, what I do is hang a extractor fan out the window for 2hrs a day, this brings fresh air in from outside in to my growroom, i've only done this for a few days & plants have started growing nicely.

PS... extractor fans are extremely cheap, I got one for £6 & ducting for £5.

You need to control the heat 100% of the time. so I say you need to vent the heat from your light and bring fresh air in while taking out the old. Also you need to have a fan blowing across your plants to exchange the air under the leafs

Cheers guys. Maybe I'll place a standing up oscillating fan inside and then a few computer fans in the top of the closet + open doors as often as I can. Reckon that should cover it????

if at all possible mount a fan around the base of your light and run extraction venting outside through the cabinet, and then simply knock a hole the same size as your ventilation tube in the bottom of your cupboard. This removes a lot of heat from the light and brings cool air in.But i would reccomend you do something about ventilation because you need it.

i too grow in a closset, it is vwery importent to remember things can get very hot and stale in there, especialy whilst the doors are closed, as you can see in the pics i have posted i have instaled a simple fan in the bottom left of one of the doors, this draws fresh air in when the doors are shut, also instaled is a ousalating fan on the left hand wall of my closset, this circulates the fresh in coming air, to the right of my closset ( not shown ) i have knocked a hole in my chimney stack, i have shielded the light from going straight up the chimney by stagering some plywood infront of it, venterlation is totaly importent when growing in a closset, i hope this helps happy growing

It would be OK for a little while to have just a fan blowing on your plants, but as the plants get bigger and release more moisture into the air, your whole room will become humid and damp, your walls and ceiling etc. will be wet and mouldy. It is far better to have an extractor fan, it will completely remove the stale, humid air from the room where your plants are. It will also help with the smell, it won't remove the stench it completely but it will help. The first time I grew cannabis I had the same sort of set up as you're talking about now (just a fan blowing on the plants) and I'll tell you what, the whole house fucking stunk to high heaven, it was really bad, we couldn't have visitors to the house or anything. This is why it's important to have an extractor fan. The fan I have now is a regular bathroom fan which takes the air through ducting and outside the house through a hole I drilled in the wall with a core drill bit. The fan is pretty quiet, I can't really hear mine if my door is shut, and if your grow-room/closet is a solid structure then the noise will be reduced even more. My grow-room is built from thin wooden batons and hardboard so it vibrates a little when the fan is on.
