thc saturation question
weve been learning about saturation in class
and solutions have a certain saturation level. example: you can only dissolve so much salt in water considering the water is at room temperature.
when i make canna oil i usually follow the nutrition facts. so for my next extraction using coconut oil it will be as followed.
saturated fats is 14g.
serving size 1 tbsp 14g.
meaning for every 14g of the oil there should be 14g of saturated fat.
i just think of it as 1g of bud contains 1g of thc (i know its probably not, but not sure)
so i would use 1g of bud for every 1g of oil.
now for my question. is this the right way to think about it? because i want to try to make the pills and maybe fit them into smaller capsules but dont want to take 3 capsules to get the effect of 1 big one.
and i dont want to use less oil and have that thought in my mind that im already saturating the fat molecules with as much thc as it can hold and not absorb the rest.
ever since ive been making brownies. consuming the thc is more soothing than smoking. its like at a different level. which i like more. almost medicinal.
i sometimes feel that the thc is still in my body for a few days even when the high wears off. still is since drug test can prove that. but not like how smoking does.fredobox Reviewed by fredobox on . thc saturation question weve been learning about saturation in class and solutions have a certain saturation level. example: you can only dissolve so much salt in water considering the water is at room temperature. when i make canna oil i usually follow the nutrition facts. so for my next extraction using coconut oil it will be as followed. saturated fats is 14g. serving size 1 tbsp 14g. meaning for every 14g of the oil there should be 14g of saturated fat. thc saturation question
No.
It isn't.
Unless you think 14 grams of pot can fit in a tablespoon of coconut oil.....

thc saturation question
Ok well 14g of one substance CAN fit in 14g of another substance (all depends on DENSITY). ie, 14g of cadminium could fit in 14 g of hydrogen... however obviously 14g of weed would not fit in 14 g of oil.. however 14g of thc COULD fit in 14g of oil however if it does or not Im not sure and dont feel like figuring it out.
Now on to saturation... I am sure you are aware that saturation is a function of temperature and the molecules you are using. Basically with majority of solutions the more you increase the temperature the more you solute(thc in yoru case) you can get in the solution(oil). However, there is a point where if you put the nugs in the oil its going to cook them and cook the thc so this would be the limiting factor to get the maximum THC in the solution. So whatever the temperature.
So what i will explain to you is (hypothetically, Ive never actually done this but from a chemistry standpoint this is what makes sense) how to MAXIMIZE the thc content. Heat the oil to a temperature below the thc boiling point to maximize the aborbtion of THC. (I quickly searched and found its about 200 deg C but this may be incorrect see what temp vaporizers run at and this is the temperature you would want the of the oil to be minus 10 degrees to be safe so say 190). If you are wanting to use a small amount of oil to absorb the max amount you will have to put a small nug into the oil let it stay in there for some time say 5 minutes, then remove it with tongs or something, then put another piece in so that they are submerged. Keep repeating this until you have the amount of weed you want in it. Im assuming that any consumable ammount you would like would absorb into the oil this way, however im not a chemistry graduate or anything just have some engry level university chem. However this would be a good way to get more in than you could if you were to do this at room temp.

thc saturation question
I have limited experience with capsules, but the ones I made ... I'd take 1 around 5:00 pm, they'd knock my socks off after a few hrs, and I was still a zombie well past midnight. I swear I was feeling it the following day too. I just used finely ground bud (using a coffee grinder), baked it (I saved the instructions), and packed it into capsules. Now Iâ??ve been researching the coconut oil capsules because they are reportedly more efficient.
Anyways ... I think I know where you're getting at with the whole 'saturation' deal and I think youâ??ll find that youâ??ll get the results youâ??re looking for by extracting the THC from your bud or trim. From what I have read it is always best to start with either hash or keif. That way you are using the highest concentration of THC and the results will be consistent from capsule to capsule.
You can easily take some bud or trim, place it in a jar, dump isopropyl alcohol (highest % you can find) into the jar, vigorously shake it for 15-30 seconds and filter the mess through a strainer and coffee filter. Place the fluid into a Pyrex dish and place the dish under a fan. All the alcohol will evaporate and leave you with just the THC so to speak. Many suggest giving the bud another wash to make sure you got all to most of the THC out of the bud/trim.
I just tried this method today and was shocked at how much I was able to extract! I used 60g of the crummiest trim you could imagine and I made a 3g nug. It may not sound too impressive, but you should have seen the crap I was using. My trim consisted of whole fan leaves, stems, and all of my trim was mixed together. I havenâ??t smoked any yet, but it looks REAL good.
I think either tumbled bud or trim â?¦ hash or any type of concentrated method will work better than ground up bud in order to give you the results youâ??re looking for. Plant matter is just too bulky and all you need is the THC/trichs.
Iâ??m sure that your original question has NOT been answered. Just how much THC can coconut oil absorb? I donâ??t know, but Iâ??m about positive that best results will NOT be obtained using ground bud.
