You should never have started "trimming" your plants.
There is no such thing as a "water leaf".
Your plant uses every leaf that it has for photosynthesis and energy storage, so why would you want to remove your plant's energy generators/storage units?
By doing so, you're only removing the plant's ability to continue feeding itself.
When a leaf uses up it's efficacy, it will turn yellow, and the plant will shed it all by itself.
NEVER remove leaves. Tuck them out of the way if you feel they're shading a budsite, or whatever.

that I've seen tell you to remove the leaves if they are 40% gone (yellow, brown, or dead).
I learned something similar in my agronomy classes at CP SLO.

Only take leaves that drop with a slight tug. IF they are still firmly attached to the plant, even if partially damaged, the plant is still using them to scavenge the nutes contained in their tissues before sloughing them off. Read up on the definition of 'mobile nutrients'.
Don't take leaves off until they are ready to drop on their own, unless they are severely damaged by fungus or infested by a pest, and must be removed from the grow area and incinerated.
