    advice on lights plz

hi peeps, ive been looking on ebay at some lights they have and found one that looks interesting.

125W ENVIROLITE Grow Lamp/ Light - 6400K Veg - New on eBay, also Hydroponics, Plants Seeds Bulbs, Garden Plants, Home Garden (end time 27-Nov-08 23:19:42 GMT)

from an expert point of view would this be an ideal bulb to use for veg stage? it doesnt say what voltage it uses or if it needs a ballast so i know little about this item. i want to get it to try it out but not until i know a little more about it first. there is lots of info but its all about payements and not about the actual bulb itself.
i grow tired of buying the wrong bulbs at a high cost so this time im asking the experts on here

i found the reason for my last crop growing too tall after a LOT of investigation, it was because i was using the growlux 400w for veg stage which is high in the red and yellow spectrum and blue is needed for high veg growth but i want the opposite this time for my next grow.
Very short and very bushy plants is what i am looking for this grow so i am looking for a light that is high is the blue spectrum and low in the yellow spectrum but with a medium red.
    any advice plz, thanks peeps

I would go with the eye hortilux blue series. Its a MH thats KILLER for veg.

I just took a look at your link, not bad! Looks like a very nice CFL. Right color temp, just need to know lumens. It says its 100% PAR which is VERY GOOD. Might be worth a shot, for a SMALL area.

This is a good light for veg. For CFL light there is no need to have a ballast, as it's integrated with the light at the base of it, there even some vent opening on this one to get the heat out... They say high lumen output but they don't give any number, try to get this information to be sure it's really worth the cost.

You got it right for the second part of the post you didn't use the right light spectrum. I've used my HPS (1kW) light for veg and add quite good results, so I guess if I get a MH I'll break records !

    advice on lights plz

ive just sent the seller an email asking to specify the lumens. trouble is its only 125 watts but not sure if that would be bright enough but have been told that those new energy savers produce a lot more brightness than higher wattage bulbs. maybe its all speculation i dont know but i will post back with any replys i get from this seller. thank you for the replys

The CFL 125w is about the equivalent to a 500-600w incandescent, so yes this thing will throw a lot of light !

    Hey all !!!

I didn't get a lot of the information I like from the ebay ad!!

CFL's are usually rated at the equivalent value compared to an incandescent bulb. thus a 125w is comparable with a 125w inc.

For the $19 dollars you get a little better lighting.

At Home Depot you can get a 4-pak of 100w equiv. for about that price or less.

I only use the cfl's to keep males alive till breeding, MH and HPS are my choice, for veg and flower.

    Just my input

    Good Luck

    advice on lights plz

to be honist i am trying to do it on a low buget as i am skint eastwood i could have made some money from my last crop but i prefer not to sell it to anyone. it is too hard to get quality smoke these days that havent been messed about with and on top of that it is very expensive to keep buying so i decided to grow it myself for myself. the most expence is the electric it uses and i dont wish to rip off the electric company even tho i know i could do it but thats something i am happy to pay for no matter what.
the reason i was asking about that light was because of the low wattage and could help save me some £$£$. ive never really liked the type of light those flouressent lights throw off, they always seem dull like on a grey day. i thought it would be a good idea to ask here first to see if anyone else had tried them already and if any good i might have got one.

im not an expert but ive got experience,so ill say do yourself a favor and check out the spectral graph on the box or go into the hortilux website, for the mh eye hortilux blue 6500 k its got more red green and yellow than standard hps mh alltogether in one lamp from my research there is no other lamp with this high of k and the rest of the spectrals all together its got 29,000 lumans 400w, also mine is a 400w and supplies a 15 by 15 room!! ive used standard mh and during veg its not even close to this!! its a proffetional lamp, its 17 to 24 percent higher than standard mh and hps together, combo, your plants will use it reds ect during flower and blues during veg ect,, you cant go wrong with this one its expensive but worth every penny,if you want to know more ask and ill give you more info on it if your interested, cherokee
