    Big Pat Small Closet

After reading some cool threads here and studying up a little on the subject, I decided to put together a small closet grow setup of my own. While buying meds from the local dispensary is cool and all, I figured I could save some cash and try it myself. I linked a picture of the latest meds offered in OC California I was told that Headband is a sativa dominant herb. It gives me closed eye images, and knocks me out cold. Superbubba is mellower and is a better med for me.

Anyway to start off: Here is the master plan. I sure hope it works out

Grow area is a 2'w x 5'L x 5'h closet with sliding doors. I'll build a homemade dwc with 4 plant capacity. For lighting, I'll start with two 2 ft long T5 fluorescents to veg, and then switch to 400w hps for flowering.

To start the project, I've laid down some painters plastic and tape to protect the carpet while I paint the inside closet doors flat white. I think I'll leave the plastic over the carpet for the time being. Below are pictures of the meds and the grow space.

Purchases: I bought a "Sterilite" 18 gallon tub from Walmart for $6 to be made into the dwc container, and four 5-inch netpots from West Coast Hydroponics in OC California for $1 each.

To construct the deep water culture (aka dwc) setup, I measured and traced out four evenly spaced locations on the bottom of the lid. I was medicated while doing this and drew about 30 lines too many. Anyway, I cut out the holes using a box cutter making sure to stay about 1/4-inch inside of the traced lines. After the holes were cut, then I inserted the netpots into the cutouts as shown. Very easy so far.

Please note that Net pots have a lip that they rest on and need the smaller hole. I made sure not to screw up and have to go back to Walmart for a new lid. Also, I used a pencil compass, like the kind we used in 7th grade geometry class, to make the inner cutout circles.

Total cost to this point: $10

Look like you know what you're doing. The place look good for a grow, just be sure not to have a leak in you're container! Seems a good for the lights.
How do you plan the ventillation ?

Hey looks like a rubber maid container Im using the blue one just like that, I suggest covering the lid and sides of the container Im not sure about the silver/grey one but the blue one "leaks" light. Because your using a 400watt hps I strongly suggest covering/painting/taping that box because the light is bright. But good luck it looks like you have a nice little setup I have the exact same thing going except im using a 400watt Metal halide

yeah man, i hoping i don't get any leaks. I'm going to try to be careful.

As far as ventilation goes, I've been thinking about making my own carbon filter and using an inline fan vented into my attic. In the meantime, I will be using a regular rotating fan with the far closet door somewhat open. The closet is actually located next to a large open window which should provide plenty of fresh air.

wow, this is something I did not think about. Will a coat of white paint on the lid do the trick?

I will try to put a light inside the tub and see if i shines through. Will light penetrating the plastic hurt the roots?

I picked up two 2 ft "Hydro Farm" T5 Fluoros 6400K lights and aluminum reflectors at West Coast Hydro. They cost me $30 each and the reflectors were $10 each. These lights did not come with any helpful instructions, so I faked it, and decided to go to the garage and make them 'hangable.'

To do this, I bought some aluminum angle stock for $5 at Ace Hardware. I took it home and cut it into two 8-inch pieces to match the separation of the netpots in the dwc. This aluminum stock was drilled out to hold each of the reflectors and bulbs. I eyeballed everything and screwed it together with small sheet metal screws. It worked out nicely.

Looking back, I think it would have been way cheaper to go to Home Depot and get some shop light cheapo T12s.

Total cost to this point: $85 plus $10 from before = $95

Also, I grabbed two 5 ft pieces of lightweight jack chain. It cost me $0.49 per foot at the hardware store. Along with the chain, I bought some "S" hooks for $2 and attached them to the light fixture.

I installed it into the closet to see how it looks and works. Afterwards, I had to kick back for a few, have a couple of bong rips, and enjoy my work.

    So far so good.

Total cost to this point: $7 plus $95 from before for a total of $102

    Looks great man:thumbsup:

For future reference you can get a two bulb t5 fixture for about $20 at home depot.
What kind of nutes are you going to use?
