It's actually pretty funny. I mean it's an ad resorting to the same stereotype of pot smokers that Cheech and Chong perpetuated. Actually, I'm sure 'up in smoke' probably did keep quite a few people from ever wanting to try weed - stay away from that stuff or it'll turn you into burnt-out brainless idiots like these guys. It's interesting, though - have we seen the end of scare ads built on long debunked claims? Are pathetic social stereotypes all they have left?

Of course times are changing, and the idiot stoner stereotype is dying out as well. Cheech and Chong are gone, now we have Harold and Kumar - both intelligent and highly functional characters. We have the Botwin family in Weeds (the final season of which will air next year... can't wait!), so the image of the burnt-out-stoner is being replaced in our popular media by a more balanced and less ludicrous version. The image being embraced by those ads is a generation out of date.
