once it's been posted it's history...litterally. we have no control or access to google which is why people need to be aware of the fact they are the ones responsible for the content that is posted for anyone with net access to read...iow, the world is going to see it if they wish even decades from now...scary, eh? even posts deleted from here are not fully removed. everything goes into the archives which once entered can not be changed or removed.

As computers become an ever greater part of everyone's life, I suspect people will tend to be more tolerant of other people's behavior, since the alternative of hiding/erasing one's history in a computer dominated world is a futile effort at best.

Most all message posts I have posted on Usenet (newsgroups are a text-based public message board system of sorts) are still easily found even 10+ years later; the Google newsgroups archive dates back over 20 years.

Heck, the Marihemp Network message boards archives themselves date back over 7 years already - amazing it's been that long; I still have archives from back when I ran a BBS over 12 years ago - information tends to persist much longer than most folks ever expect it to ... on the other-hand, often much of it is of no real consequence - it's human nature to believe one's posts, etc are so important that people will care 10 years later - truth is that most folks won't search, let alone care much - and those few folks who do care, etc will more likely get a chuckle out of what they find about a person as opposed to holding the information against them.

In regards to parents - remember they were young once, for as difficult as that may be to believe, and thus they likely not as naive as they may appear to be - something like 50% of adults have consumed cannabis at least once in their life; most have drank, often to excess; abused/misused prescription medications; don't drive safely/don't buckleup, etc ... parents aren't perfect - while most young people want to keep their business to themselves, having parents find out may not be all bad, at least after the initial shock, since an open and honest parent/sibling relationship is better in the longrun.

Opps, got sidetracked into one of my tirades again ... anyways, the user name policy / history deal is basically as del... already explained.

Do you really think your sister or parents would be that bothered? My word of advice, Matt, would be to use a different pseudonym. :rasta:
