Ok, I know it is bad to put to plant in the same pot with soil, but is the same true with hydro?

I've seen grows with more then one plant to a tub without any barriers between the plants to prevent root tangling. So I was wondering if I could do the same with a bucket. If not I will either kill of two of the plants or add in two more buckets to the system.

Originally, two of the plants were just test plants. After everything got to the way I wanted it I put the two larger plants into the buckets. I left the smaller ones just to make sure everything remained well because they would probably show signs of stress faster. Now they have become very healthy and I would kind of like to keep them around if possible and in the most suitable manner possible.

Thanks!
