I think if congress or anyone in the Senate wanted MJ to be decriminalized or leagleize they would have done so by attaching the bill as a rider to a bill that they knew Bush would most certainly sign, And when He does it would be law too. thats how you get the fabled 700 page bill in Washington. 1 bill with 200 riders attached. When the first bill is signed they all are law. They "RODE" in on the first bill.
No one did that because they were fearful of federal ridicule.
You states that have it leagleized should ask your congress to draft a bill for total medical MJ use nationwide or better yet desciminalization, as your stsates allow it by the peoples demand there for your congress people have nothing to loose. Where as oour are fearful of ridicule and bieng voted out!

I would disagree that marijuana decriminalization is not closer than it once was. I think it DEFINITELY is closer after this election:

Not only that, liberal-leaning Democrats are far more likely to vote in favor of the bill than conservative Republicans.
The Senate is projected to have anywhere from 56 to 60 Democrats at this point. 4 races are still being tallied.
Additionally, the President ultimately passes or vetoes the bill. Obama is way more likely to sign and pass such a decriminalization bill than Senator McCain would have been.
So, politically, the framework is set. If the people and organizations in favor of decrim. can step up, which I believe they are beginning to do (represented most recently by Mass. victory and Mich. MMJ victory), Representatives and Senators will begin notice the public's call for less stringent, more effective, and more progressive marijuana legislation. :rastasmoke:

neither obama or mccain ever plans on legalizing or decriminalizing. obama has stated in the past he is against the prosecution of MMJ patients, but that doesnt help much
