What should I put my plants in if I use an Ebb & Flow watering system?

The grow space I am making uses a ebb & flow hydroponic watering system. I was planning on putting the seeds in rockwool and then putting them in the ebb & flow.

I'm taking clones, and plan on planting them directly into the net pots filled with hydroton. Theres a thread on here showing how to correctly transplant them into the hydroton, its easy. As far as using the rockwool, most likely the same method except cover the rockwool up a bit with hydroton or whatever media you have. A very experienced grower convinced me to use a drip system over my ebb and flow. If i could remember why I'd share his reasoning on the matter but it might be worth while to research it. If you have ebb and flow you hardly need anything besides some drip line.

I have been using EnF since day 1 and after seeds germ I put them in 1 inch RW cubes until roots show out bottom. Then they get placed into a 4x4x4 RW cube. When roots start showing from this they get placed into there grow tray which is about half full of Hydrotron and they start the flood and drain sequence. Now I have read that some peeps "bury" the RW into the Hydrotron but I have had no problems setting the 4in RW on top of the layer of Hydrotron (aprox 1-2 in deep) and the roots just migrate into the hydrotron. Tray floods every 4 hours and pump runs for 15 mins. Flooding only happens when light is on and first flood takes place 1 hour after light turns on. I have no pest, disease or algae probs to speak of. Hope this helps ya.
If you have something productive to say by all means speak up, if not then please close the hole under your nose.

Here are some pics so you can see my system. But I still have some discontent. How long should my system be running for and how many times a day? I don't want to drown the plants and the rockwool can hold a lot of water...

do you plan on putting the RW strait into the flood tray....
I'd put a lid on the tray...
drill holes into the lid, then get some net pots the same size as the holes you just drilled...
then put a thin layer of hydroton in the net pots with the RW cube on top of that then fill around the cube and up to the top of the net pot..
then place the pot into the hole in the lid..
set the overflow inside the tray so that it just comes to level of the RW in the net pots...
I might also suggest making the tray light proof in nature plants roots don't normally see light so neither should yours...

I've grown this way before it works...r u growin from seed or clones
