This is not correct... The buying and selling of marijuana is not legal in Washington state [medical or otherwise] [it is tolerated in some counties]
A medical marijuana patient may obtain marijuana in 2 legal ways...from growing it themselves... or by designating a Provider. [This means the Provider can give the Patient medical marijuana... not sell it to them]

If you get caught in a deal [money exchange] you will depending on where you live in Washington have to defend yourself in court... then it's up to judical discretion

Quoted from "A Guide for Patients and Physicians"

Patients are not allowed to give away, distribute or sell marijuana under any circumstances to anyone. Any evidence of such distribution puts a person at very high risk. The Medical Marijuana Act defense will not work for someone who distributes or sells any amount of marijuana, because the new law applies only to a patientā??s personal medical supply. If prosecutors discover evidence of sale or distribution, they can charge a person with felony counts that could result in years of prison time, regardless of that personā??s medical condition or medical authorization to use marijuana.

Taken from Washington State Medical Marijuana Act - A Guide

A Provider has the same rules preventing sells...
