as I know of the local data and prop 36 (I think...) and it showed that about 35% of the people do not return to jail and are deamed a "sucess", but the data shows that the other 65% will be again arrested within 2 years for the same crime.

It's gotta be a tough field to try to run this type of program with the sucess rate being so low, but I think that even if we have a low sucess rate, it's still a sucess.....

I wouldn't want to be the one who determines the sucess rate for these programs, as that would be a tough, if not impossible job!

how does this differf rom the existing prop 36? I am personallyu being screwed (in my eyes) by prop 36. I have a ridiculous felony hash possession charge and due to prop 36, instead of jail time (which I wouldn't get 1st time offender and iots just hash) I have to do their stupid drug court thing. thius souynds like more drug court. drug court sucks.. they screw up your healthcare and override wjhat ytou and your doctirs have decided is best for you. i suffer from a rare form of cancer affecting the adrenal system.. I have to smoke pot to eat and keep my blood pressure under control. I have several doctors who have gone as far as saying I may actually die (of a stroke due to extreme spikes in arterial blood pressure) if i am forced to quit smoking pot as this evil judge is trying to say I have to do. apparently if ytou medical reccomendation expires and you get caught wiht hash all the sudden ypou become a felonious drug offender.. andyways due to prop 36 the diversion program is set in stone, and quite strict requiring weekly UAs and three times weekely "self help" in addition to a weekly drug treatment therapy bullshit time and a weekly probabation meeting not to mention the completwe lack of rights to privacy ANYWHERE while on probation in CA. so fuck prop 36 and unless this is gonna stop sick medical users who for whatever reason do not have a medical reccomendation from being sent through freaking rehab programs to hell with it to. I moved to california to avoid prosecution and have ended up with it worse than I would in many places where there are no medical programs. So as soon as they get me back into court I will have to quit my job so I can somewho make it to 3 freaking na meetingsa a week, because I travel everyweek and work in the field 8 days at a time and then come back home for 6 days off, during which these clowns would like me to spend 100% of my time going to theire meetings and pissing in cups, but since I will be gone for more than a one week period at a time they will not even let me keep working in my salaried benefited career position. these peoples goal is to ruin your life, and they will stop at nothing to take your time from you. i would rather sit in jail for like 30 days then put iup with ridiculously intrusive shit for 3 years.

IF the Proposition was only about 'helping first-offender kids', that would be different ... it's not, it's about giving still more bleeding-heart free passes to fuck-ups ... try turning your compassion towards the crime victims, and law-abiding society ...

I think we can all agree that there exists no bigger fuck-ups than those we see among alcoholics. Yet we understand how counterproductive it is to society and the individual to lock people up for simply being alcholics.

Addiction to anything should not be viewed as a "crime" its simply a human weakness that needs to addressed by rehabilitation and education, not imprisonment.

People may do many things due to their addictions, which those things could constitute to a crime like robberies, sexual crimes, murders, fights, etc

and these crimes do have victims, its not like they are ok.

Flyingimam has it right addiction is a known trait in human behavior...Did you know the receptors in our brains that process the capabilities to love, are the same part of the brain that falls to addiction, of any kind; drugs, sex, gambling, the internet, or even someone else....WE are wired for it, odd to think of it that way but it's just as true as the way we have cannabiniod receptors in our brains that are only there to process the cannabiniods in MJ... So if who or whatever created us(place your religious beliefs here)built us w/ these parts why not use them...at least in a good way and in moderation of course...I don't think some individuals should be incarcerated for their addictions alone, but looking at it the other way where has that persons addiction taken them in life, and what have they done to get rolled up by Johnny Law dog...

I agree with you Lead...they don't make it their business to regulate how much alcohol or cigarettes or chemicals someone can ingest. but they feel they need to step in and save us from those big bad BUDS...makes me sick

ok so I only made it thru the first page of prop5, like section 10 and I tried real hard too read more but its too much too read and I'm sure they hid a bunch of f*cked a** sh*t in the prop as thats why it was so big,(purposely making law so big mojority of citizens cant read it) the stuff I noticed from the first 10 sections was that it created alot of new jobs, like secretary, like secretaries for the secretary and secretaries for the secretarties, omg! :wtf:
oh ya and they all "too serve under the pleasure of the govenor" sounded like he was arab prince with 40 virgin wives hows that?, so prop5 was voted down, thank goodness I think their is more we can do in the justice system but we have too watch out for bad legislature like prop5 it may have had some good in it but likely came with a higher ratio% of bad, the other thing I thought was that on the front of bill prop5 staed it would save taxpayer $$$ from what I read it wasn't mentioned that it would actually cost more too create those highly paid secretaries of secretaries of the SECRETARY jobs; too pleasure the governor allday long and allnight long. did we forgoet about the California Budjet crisisthat less than 30 days ago the senate only took a loan out, too balance the monthly budjet and that loan thats due next yr april 15th. all they did was stall the crisis and make the amount of money owed triple the state of california taxpayers pay a very high % of taxes but the senate leaders keep stealing billions for fancy projects in the state and not taking care of the people who paid into the system. rant-off
