I went to a bunch of gardening shops today, none of them have heard of canna, or fox farms, or any of the other brands that are highly recommended on here. I think Im just gonna buy some of whatever they have, as long as its organic, and not MG. What numbers should I be aiming for? Mostly nitrogen?

Also not having much luck with my ph research. I used the pool drops to test my tap water. Looks to be 6.8-7 but i cant really tell because of the inaccuracy of this testing method. I tried filtering the runoff with a coffee filter, but it didnt make it any less brown. I also let the runoff water sit in a cup overnight, to see if it would "settle" It didnt, which means the color isnt due to particle suspension, and explains why filtering it didnt do anything.

Today at lunch I drove around to a few aquarium/fish stores in search of a digital ph meter. Only 1 of the places even had a digital one, and it was $110 plus tax. Maybe one day when I win the lottery, untill then its gonna have to be a 20-30 dollar model off ebay. As much as Id prefer to support a local merchant, im not gonna scarifice my kids christmas presents to do so.
How much should I be looking to pay for a digital one?

Over here in the UK you can only get canna and most stuff for growing tha herb in hydro shops, the normal gardening stores do not sell it.

Hey f4i don't worry about that yellow color- you don't need to be DEAD ON PERFECT in dirt. Your runoff will look yellow if it's got lots of crud in it that you are going to actually want to flush out anyway. Did you read that flushing thread at the top of problems? It shows pics and everything!

Ive been putting that off until watering time, and just did it now. I wanted to wait til it was bone dry, +12 hours or so. I digress.. the runoff was yellowish of course, but once i poured it into the little vile in the test kit, the yellow was barely noticeable. It looks to be in the high 6's coming out, so thats good. Im still getting a digi, but this'll do for now.

And now for some pics.. A couple of the leaves that have been yellow the longest are developing brown spots. I gotta look that up when i get home from work today, im already late.

Dood... you gotta transplant into a bigger cup. The plant is too big.
That is calcium deficiency. The soil is running out of lime! Transplant!
Looks like you would be best in about a 6-8" pot (around a half gallon size), full of FRESH soil, and then start feeding with a complete grow fert with micronutirents. Also if you have some calmag handy that would be helpful, but the fresh soil WILL provide lime.

Those items are a must have when growing.
And like Stinkyattic said cheap ones are not good.

Don't bother with the meter- you're in dirt- drops are FINE FINE FINE.
Spend the $$ on a really good fert. Heck, if you lived closer I'd come over there with some juice and be all, DOO IIIIT ROOKIE!!!! You need fertilizer! Or rather, your PLANTS need fertilizer. You probably need a cup of coffee and some bacon. Is there ANYTHING bacon can't fix?

    Updates:

Shes doing great in the bigger pot. It wasnt rootbound in the cup, so I guess it was more about that soil being used up. Since transplanting all the new growth is nice and green and not drooping. I picked up some Schultz 10-15-10, it was either that or miracle grow, so I went with the schultz. Watering time isnt for another day or 2 so I wont get to try it yet.
