Sarah Palin Smoked Legal Marijuana, Why Can't You? :: Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyer Blog
GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin is an ex marijuana consumer. Mrs. Palin smoked her pot in Alaska, which her campaign points out was legal in Alaska at the time. This is a curious defense as John McCain is an advocate for the federal arrest and prosecution of medical marijuana patients and providers who operate legally under California law.
Like any good politician Mrs. Palin she now claims she didn't enjoy her marijuana, and that adults (besides her) should still be arrested, even though she wasn't.
"'I can't claim a Bill Clinton and say that I never inhaled.'" The paper quoted Palin as saying she opposed legalization of marijuana because of the "message" that would be sent to her children.
The arrest of 800,000 adults a year for cannabis does send a message- about the perpetual ignorance of government. A better message for children is that one day they will be adults, and they will have adult decisions to make. Mrs. Palin's marijuana stance seems to be typical political hypocrisy; convenient and intellectually dishonest.
Today, Alaska still has the country's best marijuana laws. According to NORML an adult can posses up to one ounce of pot at home, with no penalty. Of course, the logic behind Alaska's policy ends there as possession of over 4 ounces is a felony offense.
If legal marijuana is good enough for the GOP Vice Presidential candidate, why not for all Americans? After all, where would John McCain be if Mrs.Palin had been arrested and put through the drug court deferred probation nonsense so many other defendants face?

You can. Go to Alaska just like she did.
P.S. If she was really some kind of anti-cannabis nazi, she could have done something about it if she wanted to. Her fundamental belief that the government should have less to do with you than more is what likely was behind her not taking any significant action against the current laws in Alaska.
I would think.
Just a thought.

she didnt bother to do so, cuz just b4 she got into office there, a similar effort failed, u know no politician wants to press on freshly failed efforts needlessly when there is chance that they will fail again

I believe I could easily make my argument and it sounds more likely. We are both kind of just postulating. I checked your link, but the decision of the court was consistent with what I believe her political position could be. And I submit that it makes what I said more likely to be true. She as a citizen in Alaska, may have supported that decision, I don't know? But I know as Gov. she could have made that an issue if she wanted to and for some reason she choose not to. She seems to be the kind of person to go for it if they strongly believe they are right, and I don't suspect anything would have stopped her. I just think it was because she supports the current courts decision as it pertains to privacy, she echoes those ideas now.

But isnt she running for a federal office. I live in cali, under state and local laws its legal for me to medicate myself... much like it was in alaska, but not federal laws. so didnt she still brake a federal law? How can she say it was legal for her under Alaska's state laws, yet federal laws allow the raids on banks and grow-ops in cali. its just more contradicting BS!

Um, yeah, she is running for federal office. And.......
I don't see the point.
Are you saying that I cannot run for federal office because I lived in a state that had MMJ laws, I broke federal law too.
I guess I don't get it.
I am pretty sure, she had absolutely nothing to do with the current federal cannabis laws. I don't see the connection, or the point to be real honest.
Well aside from the point that the left (not you veggi, I have seen this story before, not attacking the messenger here) is once again trying to paint someone with a certain brush purely because of party affiliation. From what I have seen, all this amounts to is some odd attempt to say that Palin is anti-cannabis. Maybe she doesn't care for it personally, but the fact that she was the top law enforcement officer of Alaska, and was open to trying it should tell you something about her. Hello? Out of any of the 4 people on stage now, she is the one that is most likely to benefit cannabis users because of her views on personal privacy/states rights. IMO. But of course 99% of the people she would be helping, in fact hate her with a passion, and they don't know why. They just know that's what they were told to think.
Oh well,
prohibition, shooting for 100 years!

damn! passionate much? :hippy: Im not saying anything about Palin and her views on MMJ. The connection Im trying to make is this: Palin is saying that it is ok that she tried MJ because it was legal in her state. Implying that states should be able to decide if MMJ is right for them. Yet she follows a party that is notorious for raiding MMJ clinics in Cali. A state that decided MMJ was legal. She has not come out and said she would stop the raids... i would think someone would have asked by now. McCain and her party have made it clear they have no intentions of stopping the raids. Thats in direct conflict with what Palin said. Does that help you understand the clicking in my head better?

I am with you up to here. I am saying to myself as I read, "ok, oookay, ok"

Congress, or the Attorney General. So when is it gonna happen. That would instantly legalize it period. So what are they waiting for, for that matter, why didn't they do it when they controlled congress for 30 years up to the mid 90's. They must have forgot.

I am on your team with cannabis.
Cannabis staying illegal as an agenda is way bigger than political parties. Both sides have plenty vested in keeping the status quo. And that will not change, no matter how much you believe in the "Change". lOL
Yeah, ok, so what? Niether has Obama. I don't think it is a relevant issue in a presidential campaign. Why would she? For that matter, I have not seen Obama "come out and say he would stop the raids". In fact I have only seen him contradict himself on the issue.

Yeah?

I mean with Biden and all, democrats just expect the vp to instantly adopt all the views of the "One". LOL
Yeah I understand. Please don't take this post as any kind of direct personal attack on you! It's not, I typed everything with a big grin, just look at the avatar as you read it.

Perhaps, but as a republican who believes government should butt out of just about anything it can, this same philosophy should be applied to Americans in general and their use of a benign plant. :wtf:

Right, we agree.
I am speculating that Palin does as well based on her actions, or lack of taken as the gov. of Alaska with regard to the cannabis laws there. Combined with some of the things that she has said about personal liberties, and states rights.
