400 and 600 aren't small. perhaps compared to your 1000. but a 600 throws tons of heat and ain't no joke. if he's using that tent he built...a 400 would burn it to the ground. i would say 250w max for his current setup.

Also, to the OP, if you are gonna be someone's caregiver, you gotta know what you're doing and be able to PRODUCE. it isn't just an easy, legal way to grow weed. a guy struggling to buy CFLs is not in the position to be a legit caregiver. It's certainly an attainable goal that you should work towards. But you've got a long road ahead. Just FYI and IMHO.

Big ups though. i really do dig that tent.

    skeet.

PS- here's a 150w HPS, bulb and shipping included is $82 High Tech Garden Supply
    Can't beat that.

    thanks for the input GG
i tired to find some of those 3 bulb strips and the y splitters i could find none anywhere(lowes, walmart,ACE Hardware,) but as of right now i trying to figure something else out that could help, i might have to try home depot or sumthing next week.

Here's what i would suggest. Finish this up and learn all you can from it. Hopefully you'll have a female you can take clones from. So take some clones and once they root pick out the best one and grow that one. Just keep it simple with one plant.

you have a bunch of CFLs already, so i would continue using them for veg. 1 plant with a handful of CFLs will veg fine. but come flower i would really take the advice of an earlier post that suggested a 150w HPS. They are incredibly cheap and readily available at Home Depot or Lowes. It won't throw much more heat than the CFLs and you will piss your pants when you see the buds that come up. And energy wise, 150w is NOTHING.

Once you get a bit more experienced, i would suggest looking into LST and SCROG. There are some great articles on maximizing yield with low wattage lights (Fluoros and up to 250w HPS) that i think you could really benefit from.
here's a quick glimpse: CannaStats - The ScrOG Technique

keep at it, you've done well considering the circumstances.
    skeet.

PS - Just a quick search on homedepot.com gave me this Lithonia Lighting Bronze High Pressure Sodium Flood - OFL 70S 120 LP BZ M4 at The Home Depot
You can get a 150w-400w HPS light from HTGsupply.com for between $100-$150...bulb and shipping included.
thanks skeet i will have to look into that. i knida wanted to keep my grow cfl, but i'm starting another one next week with a friend and we just could possibly use the HPS....
also do you know any other technique i could use to transplant multiple plants from one pot to separate ones????
    thanks...

That's usin' your noggin!!! Pure stoner intuitiveness. Everything i see i think "how can i use that in my grow".

Just drill plenty of holes in the bottom for proper drainage. Also, roots like it dark so you might want to put some of that black plastic on the inside (easier to maintain than on the outside), then soil, then do your transplant. Some one with more soil knowledge than me may want to verify, i'm hydro through and through.

The 3 light fixture is definitely at lowes. i got one there. in fact i posted in-store photos from another thread: http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-gr...ml#post1929494

Those 3 bulb fixtures are awesome. Also, Lowes has 4' fluorescent fixtures for $8.98. They say that they are only for T12 bulbs, but i opened one up and the ballast says it'll run T8 bulbs. So you can't go wrong with a T8 fixture for under $10. I have 3 of them on my veg.

    alright. keep it cool.
    skeet.
