DWC momma is not happy!! :(
Hi everyone,
The momma is having a great deal of issues right now and I'm not sure why!
Setup --
DWC - 5 gallon tank
Two air stones
water level half way up at pot... about 20% of roots in water..
inside water temp 72* -- it's as low as I can get it.
Ambient temp 74-80 sometimes (I try not to let this happen mostly at 71-76
Dynagrow formula at 400ppm and pH at 5.8-6.0 (need a digi)
Two days ago the momma out of her home to replace her with the routine 7-10 day flush... I put her into clean pH adjusted water (4 gallon) with 20ml of h202 that sat overnight. She was happy as could be.
When she was checked that afternoon her stems were even more red (they were slightly before but not too bad) and the leaves were extremely droopy.Thought maybe she was just hungry... so she was flushed out and renewed with nutrient mix at 400ppm... Two days later and nothing has changed she is still really unhappy...
The roots were checked and they are slightly brown, but fairly certain this is from nutrient stain because they are not brittle (atleast yet if it is pythium)
need your help!...any ideas??

don't flush too much, I've noticed when I flush and re-nute it sort of shocks the plant for a good 6-18 hours
the drooping could be from too much hydration
but you said only 20% of the roots are in the water?
my roots in my DWC are 80% submerged in water with 2 airstones one for each plant
I can't really think of anything
maybe cut down on the H202?

a mystery ... :wtf: ... the plant looks 'shocked' to me, but reading your flushing procedure, I don't see where you did anything wrong ... did you handle her roughly, during flush, etc. ?? (I flush mine in place, no moving of pots) good luck

What kind of ph tester are you using. Is it freshly calibrated?
I agree with Revanche that you may not have enough root mass in the water to keep the plant happy
My very first guess....ph is off somewhere. Second guess......some sort of damage/disease to the roots but that's about all I can think of.

When you put her in a temporary bucket, did you add an air stone to that bucket? Even with h2o2 you still need the water circulating around the roots so they don't get stagnant pocekts. And I don;t believe that amount of h202 is adequate to oxygenate a mother plant overnight.

yea the replacement bucket definitely had airstones in it... I think I may just keep an eye on her and see what happens... the ph and ppm are checked twice daily actually just to make sure everything is on course... A digital and regular ph kit has been used just to make sure it was right... The last time I did some switching around she did get bounched a bit, i had a bit of a time getting everything out... so maybe she wants to be left alone? I'll keep everyone posted.

Ack!!
Now some of the leaves have formed large brown colored blotches on them from the inside to the outside of the leaf... This part of the leaf is extremely dry and dead feeling!!
Anyone have any idea?? Did the plant get totally shocked in the flush process???
almost fully wilted.... I think she's dying

yup she's definitely dying on me... fully wilted and bottom leaves are turning yellow on the outer edges... This is caused by too much nutes right?? I went ahead and lowered them down to about 280-300 to see if by some miracle she wakes up...
anyone have any other suggestions??

A plant that drops that fast.......consider some sort of root disease such pythium or something along that line. The plant to does NOT look overnuted......just sick and sounding more and more like she's caught a root disease.
If you think she still might have a chance flush her with some ph correct water with H202 at 2 teaspoons a gallon (store bought 3% H202...OR..2m/gallon for 35%) and then place her in half nute strength ph correct solution with good aeration.
Get her away from any other plants and clean your hands thoroughly after working with her.
And pray. Good luck. I lost a beautiful power plant to the exact same type issue.
