first grow... suggestions wanted.

Hey guys,
I finally decided to start growing... heres what i've done so far.

-I took a seed and put it in a little glass of water, and waited 12 hours and checked it, it was still floating, waited another 2 hours and it sunk but still looked normal.
-then i planted the seed in a small pot and put it in a speaker box being lit by a regular desk lamp with a cfl 6500k daylight bulb. its on a timer so it will turn on at 6am through 10pm.
-i put a small computer fan blowing in fresh air then just hole for air to come out.

...this is the second day of it being in the pot. when should i expect to see anything new?
I'm going to plant another one soon should i do the same stuff? or what should i do differently? how do you think this will work?

oh and i put a thermometer in and it reads 78 degrees.

I usually germinate between moist paper towels in warm dark area, keeping moist till the tails r out... then into the soil

ive always found the paper towel method to better for germination you should try that

you wanna have the light on between 18 and 24 hours a day for vegging i would recomend 18 hours of light an 6 hours of darkness but its personal choice

i think its better to put the fan by the top of the box to blow the hot air out and make a hole by the bottom of the box so fresh air will be sucked in by the negative presure created by the fan (correct me if im wrong im kinda high)

did the seed have a taproot when you planted it? the shell should have opened slightly and a little white root should be pokin out of the crack. you need to plant it so the root is facing down

there was no taproot...

should i put the papertowels in a waterproof case that i have too? i dont want it to dry out to fast

hello JTJ and welcome to can.com. i gathered some links to some
excellant threads that have helped me learn to become self-sufficient.

this is only a partial list and in no particular order. if you find yourself
waiting for someone to respond, these should help to not only entertain

at least to some degree, in order for you to grow your own bud.

my box is only 18 inches tall by 12 inches deep and about 16 inches wide.
you think that will be big enough? this is more for just learning how to do it. i want it to turn out good but i'm not to serious about it

i think 18inches could be too small i toyed around with micro scrogs to get a feel for it but the samllest i managed was about 23-24 inches high cus with the pot and the lights there isnt that much room. by all means give it a go though mate :thumbsup:i learnt so much just doing little grows

ok, i thought i would post some pics of the set up so far.

It germinated between paper towels i think three days ago... maybe two days ago i forgot. but i then planted it and this is what i got so far... just broke the surface. And incase anyone is wondering i am growing this in my own house and i have some buddies living with me that love weed so i thought i would try to hide it from them then at the end surprise them!

Do you guys have any suggestions on a nice digital timer? preferably something from a walmart, target, etc.
Should i add more light? if so should i get one of those splitters to run two bulbs outta that lamp or what?
