where are your thermometers in relation to the light and the top of the pot/bucket bubbler? where does your hot air escape to?

Is you want more exhaust than intake. That is if your intake isnt just cancelling your exhaust out. Try flipping the fan around that is blowing, so it will be sucking hot air from the light and do the same for the fan bringing air into the room so it is not exhausting. See if that helps. Of course you can always just try it and if im wrong switch it around.

(Brummie)My meter is directly under the lamp, exact distance from the lamp that the plants are.

(Reefer)Ive had my lights even higher then they are and temp was exact same.
There already at 18 inches, and some say that 18 is even to far away.

(Zihowie)I have herd about that, i do have the exhaust fan in the cealing going all the time(this grow is in a bathrooom)Ill try what u said cant hurt, actually could hurt but oh well.

Ok, here is what you need to know. First of all you need to know how many cubic feet there are in your grow room. So just as an example if your room is 6 ft high, 6 ft wide and 6 ft long, you have 6 x 6 x 6 = 216 cu. ft.
Have the room closed and in this case your MINIMUM fan INTAKE should come in from near the bottom (floor - where temps are coolest) of the room, and should be at least 400 CFM (cubic feet per minute). Then you should have an opening near the top (that is near the ceiling) that should be at least 216 CFM (or 200 CFM) as an exhaust. That way you will have positive air pressure in your grow room. That means no odors should be leaving your grow room - normally an air scrubber would be placed on the exhaust and cleaned so only the warm clean air is being released to your neighbors. You should also have some fans just moving the air around inside your space.

A 400 Watt lamp only puts out about 1500 BTUs, and there really shouldn't really be a 'heat' problem. 18" away from the top of your plants is too far, wey too far. I have a 600 watt, and its generally only 3 or 4 inches from the top of the plant (I have vented lights). If it was me, I would never place a thermostat right above the plant and check the temperature there. All you really need to do is hold your hand there. If its comfortable for your hand it will be ok for your girls. The ideal temp for your room (not too near a light, and maybe half way up (4 ft from the floor), is 75F, and during lights off the temp should be around 65F.

I've worked in the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning trade for about 10 years.

    thanks,
its in a shower stall that is 7x4x3, but the whole bathroom that its in is 7x5x13

Il put them to 10 inch and see how they do then work my way down

So if the temp where my plants are gets up to 95 is it ok if, i have air temp that is 70-75 blowing on it, and everywhere else in the room except under the lights.

I have a 600 and a 1000w hps, and have grown for a number of years, and I don't think I could not tell you what my temps are because that's not the way to measure it. I have the 1000W generally around 12" from the top, but occasionally down to about 9". In fact I have a piece of twine hanging from my lamps with a small weight on the end of it. Then I have a knot in the twine at 12", so I don't have to estimate what a foot is, and I can just look at the twine and see if the lamps need adjusting. Just hold the back of your hand up and just near the top of your plants under your light. If its comfortable for the back of your hand, it will be alright with the girls. Are you growing soil or Hydro? ...because it makes a difference of the the nutrient tanks or reservoir -- you really don't want them to get into the 80F+ range, best around 68 or 70F.

    I am growing in soil

Ok so i moved it closer and temp didnt change,
Its like what ever distance it is it just wants to stay at 85
Do u think i should dril holes at the top or something to let the heat escape
Im gonna go to wallyworld tomarow and see if i can pick up a few litle fans that could be set to help heat escape.
