it's so funny, i've noticed such a preoccupation with "number of hits" from new smokers. my boyfriend, when he first started smoking, would try to describe his experience to me by the number of hits he took. "i got really high, i took like 6 hits" or "i wasn't stoned or anything, i only took 2 hits". i had to explain that the number of hits doesn't describe anything to me.

but alas, the number of total hits in a bowl is determined by a.) the size of the bowl, b.) how much weed is packed into said bowl, and c.) how potent and/or dry the consistency of your weed is.

you can pack a bowl the size of king-kongs ding-dong, but if your weed is dry as fuck, it may be gone in as many as 3 hits. but if you pack a 1-hitter w/ some fluffy, thick, potent goodness, you may get 3 or 4 hits out of it.

my advice would be to give up worrying about how many hits you're taking. if you're thinking of buying a bowl or a piece, and are worried that it may not be the right size for you, just remember that you can always pack another bowl if you run out too qucikly, or if you get a huge bowl (king kon style) you can always just pack a 2-ish hit.

if what you're worried about is not having "enough hits" to go around while entertaining, i pull out my Refill-the-Bowl card one more time. It may even give someone else an opportunity to pack the bowl.

But one thing I've learned in the last 5 years of smoking is.. the number of hits you take does NOT determine how high you get... 1 hit is all it takes for me sometimes, even when smoking regs. sometimes it's just that 1 hit to change my state of mind, and that's all im looking for. doesn't mean im high, or stoned, or baked. but i definitely am not in the same state of mind i was a second ago.
