In todays "sue happy" sociaty, its not about the induhvidual, its about the welfare of the business and the business owner...especially when it comes to employees. Skipping the insurance is *NOT* an option.... as its required for most all jobs...especially for Government, or Government funded jobs. Then there is the matter of licensing insurance requirements. Like I said before... its all about the bottom line and if the company owner wants to assume the liability and put his company and its emplyees at risk because somebody was high and got themselves and/or somebody else hurt.
Where are the fruits?? thats easy.. in the paycheck, and with the right company, the chance for promotion, and the benifits that come with a full time(40+ hours) job.
Even thought I smoke almost daily.. I am taking a big chance... and if I want to hire someone, they still have to *PASS* a UA *BEFORE* I can hire them. Insurance requires this. If you get hurt on the job, you get tested... insurance requires this also.
You pay for, and take a pre-employment UA. If you pass, you will be rembursed for the cost. If you fail, then you knew from the start you were not going to pass, and I for one as an owner am not going to pay for people to take a UA when they know they are going to fail.
FWIW, when I advertise for help, its specifically stated in the ad... "MANDITORY DRUG SCREENING". I still have folks apply that think that the drug screening policy doesn't apply to them, and when they are told the pre-employment UA policy, they leave because they know they are going to test positive.
Yeah its a cruel world... gotta learn how to deal with it. If I had to start looking for a job, it would be at least a month of not smoking before I would even attempt to apply.
