oil is a lot more efficient than solar, wind, or tidal energy...it's cheaper per kilowatt hour, and all the infrastructure is already in place...IMO the two main problems with oil are that the usa doesn't have enough oil to supply itself, and there is a limited amount of oil left in the world...we could wait until the free market decides alternative energy is a better choice but the markets are imperfect and corrupt, and would blindly lead us to disaster if there was a profit to be made in doing so

Actually, solar, wind, and geothermal energy are all very effective. The problem is we aren't willing to put forth the money into research on collection methods and into building more of them.

They may not be as powerful as oil, but they are clean and renewable.

Firstly, I must admit that I am not that politically active, and only view it from the side from time to time. After living in America for 17 years, I left to return to my home country, but still have family in the states, so I like to see whats going on over there... Now to the point. Bush was the governor of Texas before being president. There is a lot of oil in Texas. Palin is the governor of Alaska. There is a lot of oil in Alaska. Alternative energy will get us through the 21st century if we invest in it! If we were to become the alternative energy technology leader in the world, it would make us an economic force to be reckoned with!!
