Palin and Big Oil... Connection? I think so!

do you think george bush is a good president?

is it ok to whine about a president that is still living in the white house and actively nationalizing the heart of capitalism while bankrupting the country? i think that's the best time to whine...you should be whining too, unless you like what he's doing

    WAH!

I've answered this already; but to answer your question and keep it short.. No I don't think he's a particularly great president.. I think he's had some hard decisions he's had to make also and is not a horrible president either. I do not particularly like him or his style or his poor speaking abilities, but my personal feelings aside and looking at it from a pure politics standpoint; he's more or less neutral. I can give more detail on this; but i'll say this because I know you're going to bring it up.. the economy was already on a decline prior to when Bush took office in 2000. There were many factors surrounding this.. 1 thing being the dot com boom and bubble burst.

Not unless you want to also equally blame the senate/congress which is Democratic Majority and could stop anything that Bush tries to do.

I *try* to avoid whining.. instead I investigate.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't be so sure about that meng. They may have had the majority the past few years, but it hasn't been a HUGE majority. Bush can veto anything they start and they'll still have a hard time over ruling him because the gap isn't so huge in Congress. I'd say they have a 50% chance to reeeeally hammer something through if they want. If it was like......4 to 1 in favor of Dems they'd probably have no problem getting anything they want. However, I'm still a fan of getting rid of all political parties and everyone being strictly Independent, because that's what MOST Americans are. We need to just force politicians to be in the middle, regardless of their beliefs or values, because we need to put the issues before the politics.

i do blame the congress and the democrats too, and i have said so on these boards, but the buck has to stop somewhere and it's usually at the person in charge: the person who crafts policy to issue risky loans to low income homebuyers, the person who launches invasions based on false information, the person who submits budgets that turn a $3 trillion surplus into a $6 trillion deficit over 10 years, the person who turns his back on treaties, the person who authorizes torture, the person who does away with habeas corpus, the person who violated multiple international laws...THAT person needs to be singled out for special attention because another person like that could sneak into the white house if we're not supposed to whine about the guy who did all that (and is still in the white house)

clinton nearly got chucked out of the white house for messing around with an intern...nixon had to quit because he lied about some money he slipped to the lawyers who defended the watergate burglars...what does a president have to do to get impeached? steal office supplies???

Interesting reading guys. I thought it was getting a bit serious so here's a quick break. According to this site, even McCain thinks it's time for a change:

Palin is (imo) someone who is not averse to trying to use her position for her own ends, the incident involving her former brother in law should be warning enough.
As for Bush , the man is simply a mouthpiece for the party as is any president or prime minister , unfortumately he is also incredibly bad at the job.
People say Palin is the one for the job.
    I agree
But! Only if the job is skinning a moose and trying to get your ex brother in law fired

Personally, I think Bush is an idiot whose handlers stole two elections for him so they could use him as they pleased.

Government doesn't rule the people. Money rules the people, the government, and the world. So, if you really want to know who leads us, I guess you have to find out who controls the money.

Oh, and about the Alaskan oil...If we know how to collect vast amounts of energy from the sun's rays, the cool breeze, the rolling ocean, and the earth's heat...WHY ARE WE WASTING TIME WITH AN EXPENSIVE, INEFFICIENT FORM OF ENERGY!?

Because too many powerful and influential people have thier fortunes tied up in the business and thier goverment connections have been dragging thier feet when it comes to investing in other energy sources.

oil is a lot more efficient than solar, wind, or tidal energy...it's cheaper per kilowatt hour, and all the infrastructure is already in place...IMO the two main problems with oil are that the usa doesn't have enough oil to supply itself, and there is a limited amount of oil left in the world...we could wait until the free market decides alternative energy is a better choice but the markets are imperfect and corrupt, and would blindly lead us to disaster if there was a profit to be made in doing so

These are two big problems. The fact we don't have enough domestic oil means we pay our eneimeis for it, and the fact that it is limited means eventually we will have to change our infrastructure for whatever comes next or watch our economy collapse for lack of energy.

But the biggest problem is one you did not mention --- oil is an extremely dirty and polluting energy source. For me, that is the biggest reason to find alternative energy sources. And if the alternative can be domestic and renewable, like, wind, solar, tide, geothermal, etc., then that has the added benefits of solving the two problems you mentioned too.
