Largest US privately operated Airport is now Chicago Midway

A $2.5 billion dollar deal has been accepted by Chicago alderman to basically lease Chicago Midway to a private property management/ investment firm (Midway Investment and Development Company LLC) for 99 years. Due to recent success of city privatization of many city "assets", Chicago is moving into the right direction (IMHO) by accepting the limitless advantages of private industry.

Currently, Midway Airport does not produce a profit, but that is most sure to change as the acquiring firm plans to efficientize Midway. It is a win-win situation for everybody, as this venture will undoubtedly increase the surrounding neighborhood property value, provide a more safe traveling atmosphere, and the funds the city obtained in the deal will help shore up city pension problems.

Some concerns are the fear of certain costs increasing, but once an equilibrium point can be obtained, i do believe that costs such as parking, and concessions will go down as Midway operators will attempt to compete with the giant O'Hare airport located in the Northwest part of the City.

Here is a good article explaining the situation:Midwayâ??s Privatization Could Mean Changes for Airlines | Travel Industry Blog | BNET

Are there any frequent Midway travelers besides myself? Hopefully the new management will be more concerned with passenger safety:jointsmile:

I heard the other day that Chicago is going to be building a 3rd airport as neither O'hare or midway can be much larger in the future...

I fly out of midway more than any other airport and I think its great. So much easier to get to than O'hare IMO and its usually pretty speedy to get through. MUCH easier than Detroit, Cinci, or Kansas City, Denver has a pretty cool airport but its miles and miles away from anything!
