When I see roots growing out of the bottom holes of the pot...I know it's time to transplant....
I drill the next bigger size holes in the pots, too. No baffles

How do i know when the plant gets rootbound?
When the leaves start to take on a cupped-under appearance and growth slows, or when you have more than a foot of main stem per gallon of available soil, or when you see the runoff pH fall off precipitously.
Continuous canopy sticky and embedded link fr more info on that.
