Second Earth?
yeah I remember reading that that star is the closest one that could have a life sustaining planet around it
as for actual interstellar travel I wouldn't count on it anytime soon, at least not without some kind of alien intervention, since going faster than the speed of light is impossible any kind of space travel would somehow have to manipulate gravity/space itself and we currently don't have the technology to do that
then again we are advancing incredibly fast, nowadays we have all kinds of things that weren't thought of even 20-30 years ago; since I'm not even in the prime of my life I still hold out hope that I will be able to light my joint and look up at the sky and see gigantic moons with rings and all kinds of crazy space shit:rasta:

Second Earth?
Why do we want or need to find a second earth ? isn't fcuking up the one we've got enough for us.
What if they do find one and it's covered in weed, would they fly on past and never go back as it would be deemed to be a bad dangerous planet.
Or would they set fire to it and spend the next few years in orbit carrying out essential scientific research
I am tired now, best I go to sleep.
Cheers

Second Earth?
Well given that the article mentioned distances like 15 light years its obvious that we're not going to reach a planet that far away with our current level of tech.
And the answer doesnt seem to be bigger and more powerfull rockets.
I wonder if at some time in the future it might be possibe to manipulate electomagnetic fields in open areas of space effectively creating a massive tube of electromagnetism. These fields could be designed to send a vehicle generating an opposite charged field down the length of the tube as the two fields repel each other.
I'm not sure such a thing is even possible, but think about how many things we have today that would have been called impossible just 50 years ago.
Im not sure what kinds of speeds could be reached using the tubular field idea but we need to reach pretty incredible speeds to travel as far as 15 light years.
The other option is to send a self-contained ship/colony of pioneers off on a several hundred year ride to the distant planet, but when the ship arrives the people aboard are tecnically not even earthlings since they would be the great-great-great-great-grandchildren of the colonizers who originaly left earth.
I'm real stoned so this is fun to think about.

Second Earth?
I already invented a warp drive and have figured out teleportation with nanotechnology, but spies from the government stole all my plans.
