Michigans 2008 MM ballot intiative question on "Primary Caregivers"
Hello all,
I am a resident of Michigan and this November like two years prior Medical Marijuana is going to be on the ballot again. This time however it is looking like it has a good chance to pass. The most recent poll shows 67% of voters are going to vote YES.
I have no medical illness but do use Marijuana recreationally, and believe making medical marijuana legal is one step to decriminalizing it. Not treating non-violent offenders the same as violent ones. I was just reading over the actual amendment to the Michigan constitution if it passes and it says something about "Primary Caregivers" and gives this definition
(g) ā??Primary caregiverā? means a person who is at least 21 years old and who has agreed to assist with a patientā??s medical use of marihuana and who has never been convicted of a felony involving illegal drugs.
My question is can someone explain to me more in depth what the role of a primary caregiver is?
It also states:
(b) A primary caregiver who has been issued and possesses a registry identification card shall not be subject to arrest, prosecution, or penalty in any manner, or denied any right or privilege, including but not limited to civil penalty or disciplinary action by a business or occupational or professional licensing board or bureau, for assisting a qualifying patient to whom he or she is connected through the departmentā??s registration process with the medical use of marihuana in accordance with this act, provided that the primary caregiver possesses an amount of marihuana that does not exceed:
(1) 2.5 ounces of usable marihuana for each qualifying patient to whom he or she is connected through the departmentā??s registration process; and
(2) for each registered qualifying patient who has specified that the primary caregiver will be allowed under state law to cultivate marihuana for the qualifying patient, 12 marihuana plants kept in an enclosed, locked facility; and
(3) any incidental amount of seeds, stalks, and unusable roots.
I love MJ and believe that is a harmless drug if used in moderation just as Alcohol is ok if used in moderation.
So if anyone that lives in a MM state can give me some info on a Primary caregivers and his or her role that would be wonderful.
